Leveling...how to do?
Best way to level is to explore, at least early on. Explore your starting zone, view Vistas, collect Skill Points, discover Points of Interest, unfog new areas of the map; you get experience for doing all of that. If you run into a wall in your own zone, go to your starter city to lion’s arch (via the purple asura gate) to another starter city to another starter zone and explore that one.
Once you get a bit of cash or collect a lot of materials, doing some crafting is a quick way to level. But early on it won’t give you enough to make a huge difference.

1. Gathering – Gathering gives XP
2. Exploring – getting POIs, Vistas, and Waypoints all give XP.
3. Crafting – gaining levels in crafting give XP.
4. Daily – There’s a daily achievement that requires 15 types of foes killed, 60 kills, 20 gathering, and 5 events. Do it and you’ll get XP along the way, and some good XP, Karma jug, and mystic coin for your reward.
Other than that, just continue to do any Hearts and Events you find, and continue with your personal story (as long as it is you own level, or slightly below).
Cheers.

Not much to add, Lankybrit did a good job in pointing all out to you.
What i do want to share is that if you do your dailies, and you explore the area’s completely, you will level rather fast. I’ve found myself a level our 5 above the area lvl cap when i finally got it all done. So there is no trouble in leveling as long as you do Dynamic Events and explore.
Crafting indeed brings in a lot off exp, but the most you get from the discovery off new items (part off the crafting screen). You do need a good stock off mats or the gold to buy them from the Trading Post, so not so easy for your first character.

I thought leveling was linear throughtout all 80lvls so I don’t see how exploring could possibly be better earlier on, also from my experience aka discovering all of the asura city and the human city at lvl5 it only gave 2 lvls total. For me I leveled up very quickly in WvW (or it seemed that way most likely since I really enjoy it, and as they say, time flies when your having fun). Otherwise I would just do other race starter areas. Goooooooooodluck!

I say its better early on because early on you won’t have the money or materials to craft, and you won’t (likely) be strong enough to do much in WvW, and won’t have access to dungeons. Early on it’s basically the only game in town; later on there are other options that may or may not be better depending on what you’re looking for (i.e. crafting is faster, dungeons give you tokens/coin, WvW might be more fun if that’s your style).
Leveling is actually faster for the first 15-20 levels or so, if I remember the curve correctly, but you’re right in that after that it’s supposed to be a flat line.

I love the way the leveling system works in the game… you can pretty much run around exploring and crafting, helping with scenarios, etc.
So much better than linear quests… -go get me 100 dead frogs to make a pie.
I find exploring fun, trying to get every point on every map…. if you do you get a bonus:)
Also, if you have completed all your area and are still to low level, you can travel to Lions Arch, then to other races areas and do their quests…. your level will adjust for the are and you will get xp.
If you are a linear quest kind of person, I have fun going to all the other areas and doing hearts there too!
You can also move to another area after finishing everything in the area.
Every level range has at least 2 zones you can play in
And if your server is doing a wvw raid, join the sieges for good exp
Complete each zone and hit each event that comes up, as well as gather every gatherable that you find. You should be ready for the next zone by the time you are completely done.
Remember that hearts are there to point you to areas where DEs spawn; they are not meant to be the main quests.
Tarnished Coast
Events are repeatable, so make sure to try to hit them when they pop up. Remember too, when you explore and get exp for way points etc, it scales with your level. Crafting does too. No matter what level you are, you will get 10 levels for each of the crafting profs that you level up to max, so don’t rely too heavily on crafting early on, use it to get passed sticking points, IMO.
Many good advice in this thread but I would also give you one.
Try NOT to look at the exp bar, just play the game and the levels will just fly by.
