Light of Dwayna backpiece
Just so you know, the recipe doesn’t seem to drop from the gifts anymore. There’s no record of anyone getting them on the wiki drop research pages for Wintersday 2014. The recipe DID drop from gifts in 2013 (I got three of them and a few of the Grenth ones), and that’s probably when the person you referenced got it (before the loot tables were changed).

save your money, stop buying wintersday gifts, and buy it off the TP. I’m going through the same thing with Shadow of Grenth. It was 30g, I thought ok I can pick that up any time. Geared up my ele, had 10g, now I have over 30 and checked the price. Its over 70. >_<
my own fault for not getting it sooner. can’t predict the market. grind it out or throw money at the problem. the market isn’t going to pause just for one player.
Hello to everyone,
I am trying to get the light of dwayna recipe from wintersday gifts since someone in the past farmed the recipe from the tp and now it costs ridiculus amount of money.
I spent over 150gold trying to do just that.
I have a request to make from players if that is possible, stop posting orders for it for above 50 gold,it doesnt worth more and the price is fabricated,GWTP website shows a very suspicious spike in the price of the item,so lets stop paying premium for stuff that doesnt need to be paid so much.
As stated above the price is ridiculus because moreover this is just the recipe,u need to craft the materials that arent cheap as well bringing the cost to crafting this item to a legendary item’s.
I would like to hear your opinion and take on this matter guys, should we pay premium cause someone decided to play god in the tp?
Food for thought.
There are a couple of assumptions in your post:
- “The above price is ridiculous” — why? People are willing to pay it, therefore it’s not crazy to them.
- “we pay premium cause someone decided to play god in the tp” — no, the price is a premium because the demand outstrips the current supply.
Some skins are easily obtained and some are not; this one falls into the latter category. Some skins are exclusive due to content gating and some due to circumstances, including market prices. It’s entirely up to you whether it’s “worth it” (to you) to spend the time, coin, RL cash, and effort.

Well people are willing to pay for it because its a high trending item, same goes for every single item that is trending up.
A very good example is the weapon skins that Anet is going to remove from the game for some time, their price is slowly getting higher and so on,so i dont believe that they actually want the item for themselves as when it costed 17gold nobody cared about it.
My assumptions are simple…i want the item for myself and i find the 370 g that its currently trading, ridiculus, simply because people want to get gold…dont get me wrong, they are doing a perfectly healthy decision by doing so but the fact that it got farmed and thats the reason its so high is really breaking the game….
Its an endless cycle of no end…
Think it like this: Person A sells for 370gold to Person B, PersonB sells for 380gold to Person C, Person C sells for 390gold to Person D, and so on and so forth…
Its an endless cycle and nobody cares about the item itself but its trading value.
Hope my explenations were sufficient.

I doubt very much people are flipping this item, certainly not for a mere 10 gold increase in price. The TP taxes on 370 gold is 55.5 gold. A person buying one at 370 gold would have to resell it for more than 425 gold just to break even.
And no, one high priced item is not game breaking.
ANet may give it to you.
Well my example was a theoretical one and not a practical one…so….yeah….
I never said that a high price item is game breaking….*see precursors…..
The price of this SPECIFIC item is doctored and not a product of supply and demand….there is only one person behind these sales…..maybe some chinese gold farmer ?
I dont know and neither do you…
I just want to see someone care for this kind of behaviour….
Imagine it like this: I buy 10 thousand euros in gems, and i buy every single precursor in the market….say precursor crafting aint comming in this scenario….and i list for 10k each…..imagine the rage of people? Thats how i feel like mate right now,so dont say one high priced item is not game breaking…..
I work 10 hour shifts and i get very little playtime….do u think i want to spend all my free time grinding gold for an item that got expensive in one night??
No i will simply quit the game all together if this is what this game is becomming…
Well buying a bunch of precursors and reselling them… someone has tried to do that before, and guess what? They failed, people just simply listed the items at a cheaper price and the price went back down in a couple of days.
Besides how do you know someone or some people are trying to make money from it? The price has been steadily going up sure, but its a highly valued item and there is limited supply available so naturally it’ll go up. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/49480 Even after the few price spikes it still dips down a bit… And no the price did not spike to 370g in 1night as you claim.
End of the day I could make the same argument for Halloween skins, fused skins, molten jetpacks just about anything thats popular and has no supply. There is no evidence that someone is trying to flip these for money, people just want them and take the time to grind out the gold for them…
You said it yourself “My assumptions are simple…i want the item for myself and i find the 370 g that its currently trading, ridiculous.” You find it a ridiculous price, others obviously do not or they wouldn’t be paying that price.
Unless you can show me specific evidence that someone or some group is actively flipping this item then all i can say is I’m sorry, your just being childish and want to be spoon fed things you don’t want to work for.

Eh, while I strongly disagree with the OP about whether there’s an issue, I don’t think it’s “childish” to be upset that the price appears to be “out of reach” for the OP. As the OP correctly points out, the cost of creating the back pack already makes it a luxury item, so it’s somewhat of a mystery why ANet decided to short the supply of recipes (or at least, not introduce a new source for them in 2014).
After looking it over on gw2tp.com, I’m going to have to reverse myself and say he is right and I was wrong. This item is being flipped, or at least supply was artificially decreased in order to raise the price to a higher level.
On December 28/29, supply was over 300 recipes. On December 30th, it dropped to ~94. On the 31st, it was ~20. So, there was a massive buying of recipes by one or more people. This has caused the prices to start rising after a long period of being below 20 gold. A month after the buyout, it was ~90 gold and has continued to rise since then with a slow trickle of new recipes coming on the trading post.
So, it appears OP was correct about the high price being the result of actions by one or more people.
ANet may give it to you.
Ehhhhh I did write that b4 bed so i guess i was half asleep. I guess you could make the argument that someone is flipping the item, but I feel it is no different then other “exclusive items” going up in price.
