List the Classes in Order by Popularity
Umm, in what context? Personal opinion, game mode, certain utility? I mean I could list the classes in alphabetical order and say that list is what’s popular among librarians .
My bad I meant player count. Like more players player ele over necro. I’m an old school WoW player and was able to see for example (made up reference) 20% of the players play Druid.
I just don’t want to player an over populated class.
- Play engineer. High skill floor, high skill ceiling. Fewer people choose to main it.
- Or play revenant. Low skill floor, low skill ceiling. Not recommended by QTFY.eu for any raid role, so as a consequence, no one chooses to play it in other content.
And incidentally, while there are a gazillion and half elementalists, recent not-entirely-scientific evidence suggests that most aren’t playing it to their full potential. So it’s quite reasonable to argue that “skilled elementalist” is an underpopulated class.
As a more direct answer to the first question: we don’t have any actual stats on popularity. The closest is an info-graphic released a few months ago that shows the distribution of all characters across all accounts. Unfortunately, that’s all but meaningless, since few folks are likely to have duplicate professions and certain profs get a boost from things that have nothing to do with the actual popularity.
I think the most popular class is probably either ranger or warrior, both are very strong classes that are incredibly simple to play.
On the least popular side, probably Engineer or Mesmer, as they both require a high level of skill to play well
Warrior – 14%
Ranger – 13%
Guardian, Revenant, Necromancer – 12% (each)
Elementalist – 11%
Mesmer – 10%
Engineer, Thief – 8% (each)
Warrior – 14%
Ranger – 13%
Guardian, Revenant, Necromancer – 12% (each)
Elementalist – 11%
Mesmer – 10%
Engineer, Thief – 8% (each)
What is your source for this?

I … think you might be bringing some unnecessary baggage in from WoW. I know I did when I first made the move.
I’d strongly suggest that you play around with the classes, find out what you think is fun, and play that. It’s really not that big of a deal if lots of other people play the same class, or hardly any.

Chris Cleary posted a pie chart on his twitter, without numbers, and I guess people extrapolated the percentages.

Thanks for providing the source links. Very interesting.
Based upon my main account:
(#) = number of characters of said profession
Ranger (4)
Guardian (3) *
Thief (3)
Warrior (3) *
Elementalist (3) *
Engineer (3) *
Necromancer (2) +
Revenant (2) +
Mesmer (2) +
- Tied for second place
+ Tied for last place
Therefore, Ranger is the most popular! Woot!
