Lodestone Farming 2015
So I recently finished my achievements from the “General” tab (ok, I’m still missing giant slayer and legendary collector, but I’ll wait for HoT for these).
So I wanted to start the last collection achievements. However, you need tons of lodestones for some of the rare collections (e.g. for the Jormag weapons and the ghostly weapons). Plus, I wanted to prepare two incinerators for HoT too, so add another 400 to that.
I know of a few farm spots, but I got a vague memory that some or most of them got nerfed. So I just wanted to see if someone has some good tips for lodestone farming (mostly needed: corrupted, destroyer, molten, charged)
I have no problem with running around with 300+ mf, but please don’t suggest farming gold to simply buy them.
People suggest farming gold to buy because it’s easier to grind 3 gold than getting one lodestone random drop lol.
That’s usually a sign of bad market balance. Maybe I’ll farm Cursed Shore and hope for some lucky bag drops, plus buying some more from the gold I make there…
However, I thought about a bag containing one random lodestone for 1 laurel. But on the other hand you could just buy T6 bags, sell the mats and buy the lodestones… (every path leads to… the trading post)
You can farm high level icebrood (like in Frostgorge) for corrupted lodestones. The icebrood near Ice Floe Waypoint respawn often, as do the ones south of Path of Starry Skies WP. Charged lodestones and cores, obviously, drop most reliably from CoE; you can also farm the sparks that spawn around the Dwayna temple when it’s uncontested (the boss chest from the taking of the Dwayna temple can also dropped a charged core/lodestone, as well as the Lyssa chest). Onyx can be farmed in TA, and the Melandru temple boss chest can drop Onyx, as well. Molten can be farmed in CoF, and Destroyer can be farmed in SE.
On top of that, champ bags have a decent chance to drop a core or a lodestone. If you’re going to farm bags, I wouldn’t suggest Orr for lodestones. Pirates and Aetherblades drop Heavy Bags of Booty, which have a chance to drop lodestones/cores. Other players (of a high enough level) in wvw drop Heavy Loot Bags, which can also contain them, and Heavy Supply Bags (also from wvw) can contain them. Lastly, you can farm high level Inquest for Bags of Alchemical Materials for a chance. And Heavy Miner’s Bags have a chance to drop Destroyer cores/lodestones.
Ty, pretty informative summary.
I’ll definitely try the Ice Floe farm point, I’ve read about it in a guide, but it was from 2012 so I thought it was outdated. I guess I’ll try for one or two hours and look if I’m happy with the outcome.
How do you farm them in dungeons? Via end chest or are there some mobs that can give lodestones?
The boss chests are what has the chance to drop them. I know some people used to just farm the first room of TA (with the vines/wurms). Run to the vine room, kill the vines, kill the boss vine, loot the chest, leave, and repeat.
Have you considered running CoE? You can run all explo paths within an hour, I seem to get quite a few cores and the odd lodestone from the chests.
You could use the cores and promote them in the forge, the gold you make from the dungeon would cover the cost of the wine from Myani.
Just an idea to add to a daily rotation whilst you farm.

Forewarning about trying to exclusively farm each of these areas, you will hit Diminishing Returns and get a negative return on your farming attempts.
Supposedly rotating around geographically in that time frame helps offset the chance of hitting DR. Also it is reported that DR is character specific (except for dungeons) and changing characters when you start to feel your DR has kicked in will also help reduce the trash loot. Good luck!
