Hello,

I’m trying to find a gaming headset that allows me to use the headset for voice but still allows my game sound effects to come out of the PC speakers.

I’ve tried a number of headsets and most route both thru the headset.

Any suggestions??

I use this headset, it’s USB with it’s own sound. You can set this to be used through vent/ts, and have the game come through the pc speakers.

Silly question, but why don’t you just buy a mic?

I’m assuming he wants to talk through it and hear others reply, while keeping game sound separate.

The way I do this is with the use of 2 sound cards. I have build in sound on my mother board and a stand alone creative card in my machine. So default sound device is set to be the creative card. Game sound is just set to use the default sound device. Then in Teamspeak or vent set it to use your on board sound.

@Shorty: Ya I had a headset a long time ago that did this it actually had a control panel from the installed software that allowed you to change how the voice works. It broke though.

I currently use a gaming laptop, but I’m pretty sure it has two sound cards as well. I’ll try that. Thanks.

@Drevin: I have tried using a stand type mic and the built in mic on my laptop and people complain they cant hear me on both so I guess I need to get a good headset.

@Digital Dragon: Exactly. Might just be because I’m old but I actually use the ingame sound effects as queues to know what to do in pvp. Basically I like hearing the sound effects of abilities. Some people dont they like to listen to music while playing but I personally prefer to hear the ingame sounds.

Please be aware that if you also use regular desktop speakers and will be switching between them and the USB headset, you will need to change your sound device in the in-game settings (options) whenever you switch them. I bought a new USB headset with built-in mic because my desktop mic cord had gotten chewed to bits by my pet bird and no longer worked. In hindsight, I would have just bought a pair of headphones that can plug into the jack built into the speakers and not have to worry about switching them all the time.

You only need to change it once in game, if you’re using the mono headset outside of game (like vent/ts). You’ll also need to change it in your computer sound settings (to use the speakers), then in the voice chat program (to use the usb headset). It’s super easy.

It’s not something you need to switch all the time. My usb headseat is always plugged in and I have no issues.

Only headset I will ever buy is a Logitech G35. If they stopped making them, I would wilt away. Hell, I’d probably never buy another headset because none of the previous ones have ever been so comfortable.

If you wear glasses, this is the best headset I’ve ever found. It doesn’t squeeze your brain and give you headaches. It has 3 different attachable padded headpieces to fit your head better. Built in voice changers to mess with people on ventrilo (space squirrel ftw) and it has really great sound.
