Guild Wars 2

I am very new and have yet to create a GW2 character, and I have some questions, but first some bkground info.
I like to play a caster, but like to have a reasonable amount of errr HP or Life Force? I like to be able to do good DPS, I think I will roll asura but I am not sure what profession to play. I have played warlocks in the past but I am not really sure if they relate to the necro. I play PvE mostly, however I like to be able to play PvP.
1. What class?
2. What server?
3. Any specific guilds that are good?
4. Am I making a bad choice with asura?

Edit: How much is a gold worth in comparison to wow atm?

1: Well for you, you should probably go necromancer. Elementalist is a caster too naturally, but they have the lowest healthpool in the game. This just adds an extra layer of challenge however. All classes can do both PVP & PVE of course, with varying tactics. You could also consider the Engineer perhaps.

2: Depends on what your region is. I’d pick a server which has a Medium population. If you like RP, then Tarnished Coast is said to be the unofficial RP server.

3: Sure on some servers there are very big guilds. But “good” is a loose term so I can’t really answer. If anything, you can always make your own. You can also be part of multiple guilds at any one time, so your loyalties CAN be fluid ^^. This site serves to keep track of guilds in GW2 http://www.gw2guilds.org/

4: No, not in particular. Asura are fine I guess. I wouldn’t pick one, same as I wouldn’t pick a Charr either, since they’re disgusting. I’ve also heard that armor just doesn’t look as good on Charr as on others. Asura can potentially be quite good if you for instance pick a thief. Because then you’re quite hard to target in PVP, besides all the stealthing otherwise.
