Hello. I haven’t played for a considerable amount of time. I am looking for a new class to re-explore the world with. My main criteria is that the class is effective in PvE, so that means fractals and raids with a weapon I enjoy the aesthetic of. If I ever (unlikely) WvW it will be with the zerg, not roaming. I will probably never pvp. My top priority is to be desirable to fractal/raid groups.

Elementalist: I only really like staff. Would this hinder me at all? I am concerned about having low hp and no armor, meaning I might die a lot. I like the idea of 1h or 2h sword which may be an option in future. I also like playing healer/support.
Warrior: I don’t like hammer, mace, horn or torch. I don’t like to mix and match weapons, so dual wielding would have to be 2 swords or 2 axes, or a shield. The new daggers look.. wrong.. for a warrior. Are the remaining options effective? Would I be forced into a non-condi spec if I didn’t want to use torch?
Mesmer: I don’t like the idea of a mage using a shield. Would that render me a bit ineffective? (I’m guessing chronomancer is the spec to be which uses a shield).
Guardian: I guess i just don’t really see the point in guardian? What are they used for? That said I only really like the sword, 2h sword, shield, bow and staff. I’m guessing they’re mostly used for WvW zergs. I don’t know if I see what they bring to a fractal/pve run? Similar dps to a warrior but way more fragile?
Rev: I know nothing about this class. How are they in fractals/raids?
Necromancer: Only interested in staff or 2h sword. How would that work out?
Druid: Pretty much the only way I’d like to play a ranger. What are they like when played effectively? Are healer druids useful in fractals or only in larger raid settings? Do they use spirits? I don’t particularly like the look of the spirits.

The answer here is pretty simple.
Warrior or Ranger
Warrior You don’t have to worry about Warriors weapons as the main ones you will want to use is Greatsword and Axe/Mace or Axe/Shield. It is easy to learn, fun to play, and its DMG or Boon grants are very useful and desired in Fractals and Raids alike

Rangers, specificaly Druids (only Druids) are moderatly hard to learn but extreme fun to play. Once you play it at atleast average level people will kiss your feet just to make you play Fractals/Raids with them. You will use Spirits only in Raids, not required in Fractals except for certain high level instances, don’t worry about those. Druids are very desired in Fractals and Rads alike.

Revenant is a suitable option as well, but I am pretty sure that Warrior will be preferd in any Fractal/ Raid group, otherwise it doesn’t differ that much from Warrior when speaking of usefulnes. It is considerably harder to learn and play though.

All of the three professions have a good use in WvW Zerg aswell.

Out of all classes, which would be the most versatile? Which class can be played rather well in every aspect of Guild Wars?

Definitely Druid.
But very strictly speaking Warrior is as versatile, only it’s providing different benefits and types of play than Druid.
