Low FPS and FPS drop
update your drivers/ check for viruses maybe? i really wish i could help more :/
Did you by any chance install latest Nvidia driver lately?
it was causing issues for me, had to revert to pre-latest
Well if there would be any viruses it would lag in other games too? I have like 100 fps in BF3 with everything on ultra and 64 players. Also Im pretty sure I have the latest Nvidia drivers. I dont use the Beta drivers because they only give prophit in GW2.
also, try this (from NCsoft support)
t this time, I would like you to try the following settings and see if this improves your performance.
1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
2. Once opened, left-click on “3D settings” and select “Adjust image settings with preview.”
3. Select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider to “Performance.”
4. Select “Use the advanced 3D image settings” and left click on “Take me there.”
This should take you to the “Manage 3D Settings” window. Once here:
5. Change “Power Management mode” to “Prefer maximum performance.”
6. Change “Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration” to “Single display performance mode.”
7. Change “Vertical Sync” to “Use the 3D application settings.”
Once completed, click “Apply” and start up Guild Wars 2.
Once loaded, access the “Graphic Options” window and make the following changes:
1. Change “Refresh Rate” to “60 Hz.”
2. Change “Frame Limiter” to “60.”
3. Change “Reflections” to “None.”
4. Change “Render Sampling” to “Native.”
5. Enable “Vertical Sync” at the bottom.

No I have checked the latest drivers but I already have them, and I dont want to download Beta drivers. I mean yesterday It worked good but today It didnt. I havent done anything since yesterday.

I understand but may I ask why it would make the fps go lower today and not yesterday? I havent updated my drivers since like 1 months ago. But worked good yesterday?
With you PC specs this game should run great, maybe you have to many processes running in the background.
I did noticed after a recent patch a decrease in FPS in WvW. Lions Arch I didn’t notice much change.
Get the latest beta driver from Nvidia, and make sure you turn off Ambient Occlusion in the 3D options for Nvidia. Also turn off Post Processing in the game might help.
Those steps that MadGelo posted are more for people who have constant low FPS i.e they have lower end graphics cards. With your graphics card changing settings to prefer performance mode should not be needed for GW2.
Firstly, games like GW2 and MMO’s in general are more CPU heavy, where as games like BF3 are all pretty and GPU intensive. People always tend to use BF3 as an example of having a gagillion FPS…
You should try different drivers, the beta ones do have a substantial improvement for most people. If you dont wanna try those though you could roll back to previous WHQL ones. Also, always do a clean driver install…sloppy driver installs can cause all sorts of problems.
Also, id highly recommend using Vsync in GW2. I tend to steer clear of it but in GW2 it runs things alot smoother, one min your screen could be empty with 120fps you turn a corner and all of a sudden theres a 40 man zerg event kicking off. This will help as your card isnt constantly maxing for no reason. Using Vsync will also keep your card temp cooler.

Yeah I understand that, but I take BF3 since there arent any good MMO to compare with. Also did you notice that I have i7 3770k? I mean that CPU should be more then enough the play GW2 right? I also noticed that Vsync is more smooth, but I still wonder why everything worked goot yesterday but today after the patch its all crap.
I forgot to mention that I play with everything on lowest and shadows turned off. But I have the highest resolution. I have tried to lower resolution but didnt help. I can live with low graphics but not with low fps..
Well you shouldn’t have to play on low. I had issues during the headstart and found that changing most of the settings doesn’t really effect much (even with map change).
I did notice your CPU but what i forgot to post was that you should get hold of a Temperature monitor. GW2 along with background instances you’ve got running could be running the CPU so high that it is throttling itself…effectively not being an i& 3770k.
If its only today your noticing a drastic change with no game update, driver update etc then something has changed on your computer. I would try:
Temperature monitor – monitors CPU/GPU/SSD etc temps and voltages.
Different Drivers – worth a try with a fresh clean install, physx and cp too
Gameboost – This will close down as much as your like or all unneeded services etc running on your computer while you game, even if your rig is awesome you should give this a go.

Gamebooster – http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
Worth a try
sorry for double post
Can you also look at your Nvidia control pannel and post your settings. You might wanna do the same for dxdiag and check the settings.

I really appruciate your help! Right now im downloading the latest Nvidia beta drivers. Or atleast the drivers that GW2 recommended. Im first gonna try this then what you said. If you wonder if I have temp problems I dont really think so. I use 7 case fans. And for my CPU I have noctua nh-d14. Because I understood that the CPU would be really hot.
WOW. I downloaded the Beta drivers, and now in Lions Arch I have around 70-75 FPS! How is it possible! Im so happy right now. Thx for all the help guys! Wierd that I had 30 to 70 fps on drivers only. Well thanks for spending the time and helping me!
Great news
Glad to help, If you get some time out of game id give the monitor and gameboost a try. Both will help you out.
Even with several fans eventually at some point down the line they could become blocked with dirt etc and your thermalpaste on the CPU will start to dry. You wont notice when your CPU isn’t getting stressed but when it does you will experience FPS drop and system lag. Helps the lifespan too because you will notice it early if or when it happens.
Gameboost will also probably give you another FPS boost by simply closing things you dont need use or need when gaming. I use it all the time now for every game. I’d even use it for pong

Yeah I will take a look at those. Im currently useing a program called Core temp. With Core temp I can see the processor temp on the different cores. And for my GPU Im useing MSI afterburner. But the ones you linked might be better. Im gonna check them out! Thx again!

The Beta driver was recommended to me when I first opened the game on the 25th, so I just went over to the nvidia website and grabbed it. I’m also using a GTX 580, and haven’t had any noticeable FPS issues since then.
Perhaps you should try the beta drivers. If that doesn’t fix it, then you can know for sure that your GPU or drivers aren’t the issue.

I did this but nothing happened.
I get 59 when the game is in the world selection screen, but 12-17 in Lion’s Arch, and maybe 28-30 on average everywhere else. Is my true FPS 60, and the low FPS areas just happens to everyone?
Step 1: Restart your computer.
If you have an AMD video card(ATI) somehow Flash will cause it to lag and get hitchy after a while, restarting fixes the drivers – if you can force them to reload it will also fix this issue.
Your problem is that this game is a complete kitten, I mean my specs are
I7 6700k
gtx 970
16gb ddr4
win 10
and i play all in very high and I cannot get more than 50-60 fps in lions arch, is totally bad optimization of this game because i can run games like witcher 3 on ultra above 60fps and this game is a crap if we talk on graphics. in other zones i get over 120fps but lions arch and the players consume lot of resources and makes you have low ping
