Is there any use for level 39 – level 60 rares? I have a fair number of them clogging up space and it seems the only use for them is to sell them on the tp. Level 60 rare swords seem to be going for 50s+ which I find strange.

People get them for sticking the mystic toilet and forging a higher level rare then salvaging for ectos.

You can craft RAREs for LVL 35 and up gear….you just have to buy the recipes for Jewels, Insignia or Inscriptions from the Master Crafter. It’s a significant boost in stats, but questionable as to whether it is needed (Weapons are nice for 10 levels or so). Not a bad use of excess fine materials for ALTs (but all the needed materials may better be used for promotion and/or TP sale).

I’ve never looked into any potential profit at selling them on TP….can’t image there is profit in it, but I could be wrong.

How can use them to obtain higher level rares without already having higher level rares? I get using them for lower cost input in an “average” Level toss for a Precursor chance, but you would have to toss at least a few RARES that could already give you Ectos, to change these into a high enough level item to give an Ecto…..I fail to see the benefit (for Ecto generation).

You can salvage cloth rares.

I get that….the question is WHY? Are these being purchased for leveling Alts? Skins? “average” tosses in MF? Ectos (68+)? Salvage material?

Whenever production is less than demand, price goes up. There is a lot of people with plenty of gold to fund alts and its seems like most of the population has multiple alts in this game. On the other hand, I think that a relatively low number of rares for low levels are being produced. This creates a situation where there is a lot more demand than supply for low level rares, hence the unreasonably high prices for these rares. This is the main reason for the prices.

I think another reason for the high price is the prices of a lot of low level crafting materials (BTW, those prices were artificially inflated by ArenaNet when they released ascended recipes that require massive amounts of lower end crafting mats). A lot of crafters are supplying those rares for profit, but once the price of a rare drops below the value of the materials (you also have to count tax & a buffer of profit), then the crafters stop making them (There are tools that you can get online to show crafters what items are worth crafting for profit; and, between these + the number of people that craft, all items are being monitored for profitable crafting constantly). Essentially this system adjusts itself to keep prices on lower end rares high.
