MF+ only with Boon
I assume the game “rolls the dice” for your loot only at the death of the mob, since theoretically you could be eating different foods with different magic find while killing it. How would it be able to calculate that? So, most likely whatever your magic find is at the moment you kill it.
The loot is rolled when you pick it up as far as I know.
I think it is determined on enemy death. Depending on loot rarity you see different containers on the ground (bag, chest), so at this point at least the rarity is already determined.
It’s determined on death. People get confused between what drops (which is determined on death), and openable bags/containers (eg. Champ bags, Moldy Bags, etc), where the loot is determined when you open it.
Happened to find a quote looking while looking for something else.
Notes: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic_Find
“Everytime you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones.”
So it’s on kill.
Alright, thanks for the answers!
I think those potions, increase your magic find by 30%. You dont’ need to revive other people for it to works.
The other buff power/percision etc only works after you revive people.
The way I see it is, it is just a magic find potion, the revive buff isn’t so useful.

There is a lot of food consumables with a magic find buff, however the revive consumables take the place of utility buffs and are the first utility boosts that are able to give a magic find bonus. So, if you want to be maximizing your magic find, the revive consumables become very useful, giving an unique +30% mf
