MMO Vet new to GW2
Yes there is an RP community in GW2. Just have to ask around.
Crafting, you can learn all of them on one character, if you want, but only 2 active at a time.
End game content, there are raids, WvW, PvP, dungeons and a living story. There are also weapons and armors to work for amoung alot of other things.
And welcome to GW2
Matron Kaldona Kye, Mesmer GW since launch.
Matron Kaldona Kye, Sylvari Chronomancer GW2 since closed Beta.
You can find RPers using the leg tool. Sometimes you can find people RPing in the Grove, Rata Sum, and I’ve seen them in Ebonhawke as well
Excelsior!
Welcome to this world and dive right into it. If you give the game a couple of days you will likely enjoy this game. Unlike other competitors, you can actually choose what you want to do.
and politically highly incorrect. (#Asuracist)
“We [Asura] are the concentrated magnificence!”
Welcome to Guild Wars 2. The unofficial RP server is Tarnished Coast. Most of the RP has gone from Queensdale, after the great Queensdale train nerf, to Divinity’s Reach. You should still see plenty of RP in the city and especially near the home instance.
Quite a few RP guilds as well on the server. Good luck!
Tarnished Coast is the unofficial NA RP server — if you are EU, look to Piken Square.
It can be hard to get onto TC as TC is also fairly high ranked in WvW. For anything but WvW it won’t matter too much thanks to megaservers, though theoretically you are likelier to end up in maps with people from your server than with total strangers, so the incidental open world RP may show up to you more often if you manage to get onto TC.
Hey there, I’ve been an active MMO-goer for many years now. My first being Star Wars Galaxies on threw everything you can think of from City of Heroes, EQ, you name I played it. I actually re invested time to Star Wars Galaxies EMU (Fantastic btw check out SWGemu if you played)
Anyway
AnywayI just wanted to drop a line say hello and ask a question.
Is there a RP community here?
What do I have to look forward to as far as crafting.
End Game content?
I know I can check videos online or what have you but I felt asking actual players. Thanks!
Being an eq and coh mmorpg vet in general I think you will like guild wars 2, if has allot to offer that older mmos didn’t, however you will also find if doesn’t offer the same amount of depth but it has more depth in other ways. Also the real group content exists in hot expansion, and of course dungeons, fractals, and raids . But core open world is still fun.
and bacon to you too Kraang! welcome to GW2! if you don’t like bacon, no worries… more for me!
as others have said, tarnished coast and piken square are the unofficial RP servers for NA and EU, respectively.
crafting? you can easily craft up to 400 to make exotic level 80 gear, and then the next tier takes you to 500, in order to make ascended gear, which is only required for high level fractal dungeons, and maybe raids. there is also legendary crafting, but that’s a whole nother beast as it’s a long term goal, requiring mastery over many game modes.
end game content? technically, due to downscaling, every area of the game can be considered end-game content. but i know the traditional term refers to raiding and dungeons, usually. those exist here, too… dungeons are 5 players, raids are 10, then there are the open world meta events and boss battles, which typically involve 100+ players at a time. look for the level 80 zones on the map. World bosses can be found in many of the lower level areas, too. there’s also WvWvW (basically server vs server capture castles and such) and structured PvP modes as well.
something of great help: whenever you are having trouble getting a n answer to a question, you can always type “/wiki” followed by a space, followed by the name of anything in the game, and it’ll automatically launch your default web-browser to the wiki page correlating with your search., such as: “/wiki world boss” or “/wiki queensdale” or “/wiki crafting”.
queensdale, for example, is the human starting zone, and going straight to the wiki page for the zone will tell you everything you want to know, including waypoints, points of interest, event chains, bosses, chests, jumping puzzle locations, etc. you may even find interesting trivia or in game lore attached to the page as well.
For a large, multi-server RP community, you can join the Tarnished Coast Roleplayers (TCRP). Just google it and you’ll find all the officer names for an invite. You can also click the link in my signature for the community RP site.

Crafting is a thing in GW2. You gather material in the open world and then you craft. Crafting is especially needed for end game. We have two types of endgame gear, exotic and ascended. Ascended is roughly 5% better, so most content works just fine with exotics. But if you want to make high lvl fractals and raids, ascended gear will be a thing, and this you can craft.
Whilst you level up make sure you gather everything around you because you will need materials from tier 2 and up in end game crafting.
First of all, don’t stress your leveling. Because GW2 do not have the gear and noteriety grind, it will simply not be hard to catch up on the gear. So enjoy your leveling.
Things to do in endgame
Map/world completions
Crafting
Dungeons
Fractals (in which the level increase and gets harder the more you play it)
Raids
Open world bosses/events in old Tyria. Veterans still comes to this events so there is always people around.
Meta event maps in old world which is Silver Waste and Dry Top.
Meta event maps in HoT 4 maps that have nonstop meta event going.
World verses world. 3 servers fight in instansed open world. Everything from small fights to huge zerg battles. Last for a week 24/7 with reset on fridays.
s-PvP. 5 verses 5 in smaller maps and short matches of 7-15 min. You can start doing this at lvl 2 already because there are no gear grind at all in pvp. So jump in.
GW2 also have something called Living Story. This is kind of open world content being added every so often with a story line which often includes story missions, some world events big or small and lots of other stuff. You have missed 2 ls seasons, but the third is on the way.
Welcome! Hope you’ll have a great time with us :]
Really can’t answer any of your questions about RP and crafting is relatively straightforward but mostly unprofitable until you cap it.
The biggest difference between GW2 and other MMOs I’ve played is the lack of a more traditional quest/mission and more about exploring and finding events. Also GW2 was designed so players shouldn’t be afraid when they see another player in PvE. Everyone who do a fairly small amount of damage is rewarded full XP and loot. Material nodes are instanced so EVERYONE can get it and lastly just about every activity gives XP.
So enjoy.
RIP City of Heroes

I did not know this…. Hmm, how hard is it to activate crafting skills? Do I just walk up to the skill supplier and switch to that skill? I take it all my skills retain their levels/recipes regardless of which one is active at the time?

yes, you just talk to the master craftsman to switch back. it does cost 50s when you switch back to a maxed craft, but it’s worth it imo
