Hey guys,

So I’m stuck on the idea of making a character that will use a mace and shield which is pretty much a warrior and guardian. I’m all about looks and I cannot wait to see a toon of mines using the moot and the flameseeker prophecies. I’d be naturally blinding everyone haha.

My question’s this: Which class uses the mace + shield more effectively? Warrior or Guardian?

And if anyone would be so kind to put a picture of their toons using both these legendaries, that’d be AMAZING.

It depends on what you mean by “more effectively”. The shield, for example, is a personal defense weapon for the warrior and more of a group support weapon for the guardian.

Both playstyles are rather defensive, though you can still be powerful with them, depending on what you use/how you play.

I lean towards Guardian for Mace and Shield because of it’s defensive utility and nice damage mitigation through the small heals (traited symbols.)

The Warrior Mace/Shield style is “less magical”, and more “knock you out senseless” style, which is still defensive+CC. The Shield No. 5 skill is especially awesome, as it blocks most attacks for a while and can deflect ranged ones if traited.

Guardian Mace & Shield-more defensive playstyle, allows you to “quasi-tank” (there’s no true tanking.) There’s a bit of CC on Shield’s No. 5, but that skill serves other purposes as well.

Warrior Mace & Shield style-defensive/CC hybrid, no innate healing skills on weapons, a no. 4 skill stun, no. 5 blocks most stuff for a few seconds.

If you want to go “tanky”, both will serve you well, with the edge going to the Guardian just because of the almost non-stop little heals. Warrior mitigates the damage with the stunning (which often interrupts) and shield no. 5 instead, rather than healing (I use Shield on Warrior a lot, but not necessarily with Mace.)

There’s no right or wrong choice, other than which one is more fun to you (I have both, but really use Mace & Shield with Guardian because of the “Battle Priest” concept I have for her.) It would be a matter of weighing the pros and cons of each Profession for yourself, so make your own choice.

I lack any of the Legendaries, but the Flameseeker Prophecies Shield is the nicer of the two weapons you like, in my biased estimation. I do not like the Moot because of the disco ball thing (no offense, though!; like whatever you like.) :P

I’ll keep it simple; Guardian

You will possibly never use mace+shield on Warrior… in 95% of situations another weapon/weaponcombination is better (in PvE and PvP) (shield is not bad and but mace is not useful very often…)

Guardian can be good support/healer/tank with Mace

i would say you better take Guardian^^

(maybe before thinking of having 2 legendary weapons you should first create a guardian and a warrior and play them xD)

This exactly. I used to play Mace/Shield on my Guard. Good support build (along with Hammer).

I do have a warrior and guardian and like both really haha. No big preference, in the end, I’m all about looks haha.

Seems like Guardian seems to be the more popular choice. Does anyone have a recommendation as to the second weapon set that goes well with mace + shield on a guardian?

I run staff for tagging in DEs with my mace/shield guardian.

Tanky guardians use mace+focus instead of shield (bouncing blind+regen+3 blocks is way better than a 4 sec cone protection and the very situational shield of absorption). Shield is as much a niche weapon on the guardian as it is for the warrior.

Just play what class you find most fun. A shout heal condition removal Shake It Off warrior is an incredibly good tank anywhere and he can bring the instant rez banner and maybe one extra banner while still bringing 2 good shouts.

Pretty much this.

Warrior’s Mace and Shield is more for tanking and shut down build. Like fighting a tough PvE mob. Or in PvP when you are trying to pull attention away from the zerg like a PvP tank.

But Guard Mace and shield build provides far greater support to self and allies in the area.

If you want to use a shield pick a warrior. Guardian shield skills are not shield-like at all, and don’t even block stuff. (You will probably use a focus.)

I rarely ever see a mace/shield Warrior.

I have the Moot and the Flameseeker Prophecies on my Guardian, but I’m at work at the moment so I guess I’ll only be able to update with the pictures when I get home and logged on.

I did drop a picture of my Guardian on a seperate thread. It isn’t very obvious because the picture is supposed to asentuate the mixed and match armor, rather than show off the legendaries. They are showing in the picture though. You can see erm… the handle of the Moot, and erm… the underside of the Flameseeker. Hahaha.

Like you, I wanted to get these 2 legendaries for the looks. However, after seeing them for about 3 months, here are the little things that gets to me.

1. The aegis clipping is annoying. The aegis buff that guardians have permanently on them when they are not in combat, blankets as a “blue energy” over the shield.

2. In PVE, the mace works a lot better with the focus. Of course, since we are all about looks, the legendary chicken doesn’t quite fit here.

The reason why the mace is more synergistic with the focus is because the mace is a melee weapon. Mace #2 gives regen. Focus #4 gives regen as well. Mace #3 blocks, and you gain might for every block if you got that traited. Focus #5 has 3 blocks.

Imagine you went on melee, only to use shield #5 to push the enemy out of your hitting range. Of course, you can always be like me – equip them both but don’t use any of the shield’s skills except for healing.

The scepter is made for the shield. You shoot projectiles with the scepter and you can have the shield to absorb incoming projectiles.

3. The scepter works better with the shield, to be honest. And I’ve seen another Guardian with the Meteorologicus and the Flameseeker before. It looks pretty awesome except that there are no footfalls on either of the weapons, so that gets to me.

I use mace and shield on my warrior. The cc and reflect combos work perfectly for me, but the dps is slow as maces have lower dam and swing rate.
I used to switch between this and axe and mace, but apart from anything else, the solid clump when you whack something with the mace as a main, is just soooo satisfying

I stat primarily vit and tough with banners and shouts as utilities if that helps. Power is high enough for a flat dps rate, altho nothing spectacular.

Addendum to my previous post. In WvW on my Guardian, I use Hammer and Scepter/Shield. For dungeons, I run Hammer and Mace/Shield or Mace/Focus. If you specifically want to use Mace/Shield, it works, but your 5 is not that great in PvE IMO.

I play PVE exclusively. With this said the Guardian handles Mace/Shield better.
Especially if you put traits towards the Honor line, because it does wonders towards symbols like Symbols of Faith.

As for a second weapon set, either Scepter/Shield or Greatsword.

Warriors and maces can be used, but I rarely do. Most of the time the Warrior’s damage mitigation comes from putting more into the target so he dies quicker.

Guardians have insane amounts of mitigation for themselves and allies.

I play a mace / shield warrior. Swap weapon is longbow.

Not using the skins the OP asked for though so I didn’t originally respond to the thread.

Mace and Shield is very effective on the warrior.

My Guardian is Hammer.
