i once had 4 rares drop in 30 minutes without any MF gear, from the same event.
It’s only 3 times the normal factor for loot “upgrades”. Considering you probably hit the Diminishing Returns for Orr in about 30 minutes, 3 times nothing is still almost nothing. You can’t expect to see big benefit with those numbers.
You can however see the DR working quite effectively.
It’s only 3 times the normal factor for loot “upgrades”.
explain this statement.
Having MF gear is like buying 2 lottery tickets (or more) instead of one.

i once had 4 rares drop in 30 minutes without any MF gear, from the same event.
Within last 6-7 hours of my play I got total of 7 rares and 2 exotics with only 3% MF in gear + sigil of luck + nomnom bar. I did only CS DEs.
IMO MF is useless.

it certainly seems to be
it is like that since somewhen in november or december. Before one of the patches then, i got around 3-5 rares in about 30 minutes farming tunnel events in orr with 150-200% mf, making about 20-30 ectos an evening, SINCE this patch back then (dont know which one exactly, i think it was that patch that introduced the karma jugs) i have probably found about 10-15 rares in total in 2-3 months, and have been stowing my mf gear away mostly.
i really hope they will change something about this or i dont see why they would add ascended gear upgrades with +20% mf.

Every item has set within a database a loot chance. Magic Find only increases that specific loot chance in the table. Let’s make an example:
- Let’s say that a Specific Rare has a drop chance of 0,1%.
If you wear a magic find set of 100% (double the chance), then that specific rare will increase to 0,2%. It’s still statistically low.
- However, a white weapon , let’s say it has 10% drop chance:
Wearing the magic find set, would make that white weapon go to 20% in the loot table, greatly increasing the chance of dropping.
In conclusion the magic find set, will be less noticeable, the higher the rarity (as in loot chance), of the item!
So you can’t wear a MF set and expect rares and exotics dropping like rain. It will not happen! It’s a usual misconception!
Cheers
MF gear: make monster drop more loot (and will lower gray drop chance loot from the table (i think white still the same)).
For example without MF gear 5 monster, only 2 drop the loot, but with MF gear all 5 monster drop the loot.
More loot = more chance to get rare item (the percentage of rare loot drop is still the same, but you roulette your chance for every loot often).
And for event, you better in the party. I found out if you in your party, and your party have a decent damage dealer, your party can get more loot than others (which are not in your party).
All mf gear does is make a player in a dungeon group less useful.

I agree, but don’t blame MF. Blame the user!
I have one MF set for Solo playing and farming, and some others for dungeons. It’s a matter of better judgment!
Don’t bother with MF gear. If you must use MF, use a booster + passive buffs (guild banners, Omnomberry Bars, etceteras).

It is like if you buy 100 lottery, you have a good chance to get the prize than you buy 1 lottery. More loot = more chance to get rare item (as you have 100 chance). But as in lottery, you may also lose all.
I had experience it in fractal when I use my MF gear (in dredge): I get 50 bags, 2 shards, a rare, some of grey, white item. When I am not using my MF gear: I get about 20 bags, no shard, glob, etc, lot of grey, white item (edit: the amount of item when I am not using my MF gear is far lower than I am using my MF gear).

You are seeing it the other way around:
MF don’t make you loot more and a consequence of that, more rares (with same drop chances).
MF increases individual drop chances, and a consequence of that increases the loot quality and amount dropped! System will make a drop check and the values beyond that check will be dropped!
Edit: NVM, misread!

other states it’s worse, and others that is better! Pure luck ^^
that’s the problem, magic find should always yield better results for anyone who stacks it.

Statistically it does!
But even if some item have a chance of 99% to drop. There always will be some cursed souls that will not get them!…

MF only increase your chance to get loot. Every loot works like a lottery. You may get the prize or you may lose the prize.
The good news, with MF gear, you will rarely get grey and white item. The problem: blue will be added to your new grey and white item.

I`d rather people don`t post if they have no idea of the basics of MF. MF does not increase the amount of loot you get, it only increases rarity of the item you get.
“Everytime you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones.” © wiki

Maybe its only me.
When I use non of MF gear in my character, 5 monster, only 1 drop, when I use MF consumable which give me 26% MF, 5 monster, 3 drop (1 of 3 is material, else rubbish), when I use full MF gear + consumable, 5 monster, 4 drop, get material 3 out of 4.
Maybe it just me, my luck with monster dropping a loot is suck without MF. (only found 1 loot from 5 and its grey). (I am a SOLO farmer (no competition with other player) almost all of the time).
The one which I know, MF is also push the chance of rarer loot to drop higher. (thats why I get better loot (which is blue (material)) in MF also.)
Maybe the true loot table:
Nothing
grey
white
blue
green
yellow
orange
pink
(purple)
Top is more common. If the loot table is like this, the wiki is correct but it also indicate you receive more loot with MF gear.

In my own experience and logging drop data when using MF and when not using MF in same events (at different times), I have found that MF gives you more fine crafting materials and less equipment. I even checked tonight for an hour with MF, I got 36 fine crafting material drops and only 6 equipment drops.
Until a developer tells us how MF is meant to work, I am assuming it does not work as advertised.
Edit: incase you are curious I also got 6 salvageable items and 58 junk drops.

MF gear is completely useless they should remove it. All it does is cause people to wonder why the heck this mechanic is in the game and not properly tested in the first place. I seriously think they keep it in there so they can laugh at the people still using it and expecting something. Here it is 5 months later and they still haven’t lifted DR or required more extreme grinding times before DR kicks in. DR hits within 20 minutes for me I dunno who thought it was more then two hours HA.

Even with MF DR is noticeable when I start getting fewer drops within 5 minutes of killing the same mob type. And whats worse is DR stays despite going to a different map, even though wiki says it shouldn’t.
