We’ve been told frequently that magic find does not affect chests.
I’m not so sure this is true in the case of the chests after the boss of each fractal.
At first I thought it was diminishing returns at higher level fractals, then I realized it was because I was switching to pvp gear for them.
I swear, with pvp gear I get pure greens from these chests with 1 rare every other fractal run (1 in 6 chests). with ~150% mf, I seem to average 1 rare per chest.
I know 150% would at best only increase the odds from 1 in 6 to 1 in 2.4, but that’s what I’ve observed!
Has anyone else seen this?
If this is true, I wonder when it checks it? Could you beat the boss with pvp gear, then switch to mf gear before opening the chest?
I’ll try to do some runs and get harder numbers, but it will take time.
Devs have stated that MF does not effect chests and your ‘plan’ is exactly why. Being able to use gear for maximum damage and the switching to an MF set to boost your reward would render the whole point of having the gear pretty worthless. If you want to use the gear then you have to accept the handicap with it, you will get increased drops off the mobs but the chests will give you the same regardless.
I can’t confirm it, but for some time i had some crazy idea about mf.
Maybe exploration reward or how much world we explored impact rate of finding better items. Like for example 80% world completion increase the MF by 40% and also increase reward from chest etc.
It’s hard to prove but when i leveled up to 80(and had less then 30% of world completion) i rarely found any rares not to mention exotics. Now that i have 90% of world completion i find them much more. Of course there are game updates(a lot of them) and improvements of drop rates so i can’t tell exactly. But still…
I remember I played a game(it was cRPG or Hack&Slash) a long time ago where the more world you uncovered the better items were dropping from enemies. Thinking that GW2 greatly encourage to do exploration it wouldn’t be weird to include sth like that.
Even if it did increase drops, the drop system is probably going to see a revamp , its terribly buggy and inconsistent currently, but if you want to waste your money on MF gear go ahead, its good for the market.
The devs have officially stated MF ONLY affects loot dropped from mobs. Absolutely nothing else.
I’ve also heard it’s the mf you have when the mob dies, not when you pick it up. now that you mention it, I would expect the same to apply to any chest that mf would apply to (if it does apply to these).
It does not apply to chests. And yes, MF is calculated when the mob dies, not when you loot it. So killing stuff and switching to a MF set doesn’t change anything.
