What would be the best way to go about selling a legendary weapon to a real life friend? Trading post is out of the question because I specifically want to sell directly to him.

If he mails the gold to me over several weeks (due to 500g gold restriction), would it be suspicious to Anet? (Probably totally fine, but I just wanted to make sure.)

It may be suspicious but since neither of you are doing anything wrong you may proceed, but be warned that if you send the legendary and your friend don’t give the gold Anet won’t be able to help.

make a guild research bank tab have your friend deposit all the gold there and dont give them ability to take out send the legendary after thats been done.

Then you take out 500 gold a week untill all gold is gone.

Then you got 50 slots to store anything that aint soulbound or account bound afterwards aswell

You can do it and you probably won’t get in trouble for it. I’ve heard some people say it helps to state clearly in the message what the gold is for and that the legendary is in return for it, so that if one or both of you does get banned you can use that to support your case when contacting Support to ask for your account back.

The problem is that you really have to trust each other. If you send the legendary first and then your friend doesn’t send all of the gold you agreed on, or never sends any at all Support won’t help you. Likewise if he did send the gold and you never sent the legendary they wouldn’t help him either.

Whether that’s a problem or not is up to you. I know I’ve got some real life friends who I wouldn’t worry at all about doing this sort of trade with and others (who are also genuine friends) who I wouldn’t even suggest it to because I can imagine them taking the legendary and then impulse buying something else with the gold or simply getting bored sending it and saying “lol who cares it’s fake money anyway!”

It’s been stated multiple times by the devs that player to player trading is NOT supported, nor is it recommended or encouraged.

If you do so, you do it at your own risk, and the risk of your friend.

The best way to do it, would be to sell yours, and let them buy theirs from the TP. It’s far less risky, and the best way to go about it.

I’m assuming you trust your friend implicitly and this is just a question of working out the proper mechanics to sell something worth 1,000s of gold. (However, as others have stated, use appropriate caution.)

Your choices are:

  1. Friend sends the gold via mail; you send the legendary. It will just take you 5-10 weeks to finish getting the gold from the email.
  2. Friend sends the gold via mail; you send the legendary — alternative version. Have friend send two email, each with half the gold. Then wait to absorb the gold in the first email before shipping the legendary.
  3. Have the friend ship you mats or other items worth (in your agreed estimation) the same value as the legendary. This works best if the friend was likely to sell these anyhow and you were likely to buy or use them. For example, if you friend has stacks of ecto, powerful blood, etc lying around and you are planning to make another legend, those are great choices. Skins also make good substitute currencies. Obviously a lot less convenient than trading gold.
  4. Place the item on the TP and coordinate with your friend. Obvious downside: 15% lost to fees, although you can agree to split the costs.
  5. Use a shared guild bank to transfer, as detailed above. I don’t like this choice at all, because I don’t think it gets you any advantage over email exchange, unless you get a third person to manage the exchange. At that point, you are saying you trust the escrow manager more than you trust each other.

tl;dr if you trust the friend, just do it via email. You shouldn’t have any trouble, especially if you both mention in email what you are doing.
