Hello all,

So I decided to buy GW2 for my brother’s birthday this sunday. As a little extra I thought about making him an ingame gift package that could help him in the early stages of the game.

So far I thought about giving him some Gold/Silver and a few bags, but i’m a bit stuck now. Does anyone know some other gifts/items that I can add to the present?

What I got now:
- Gold/Silver
- Bags
- Armor Boxes and Weapons (Thanks to Esplen)
- Potions, Food and cheap dyes (Thanks to mtpelion)
- Salvage kits and harvesting tools (Thanks to Maethor and Olvendred)
- Minipet (Thanks to Kokiman)

Thanks in advance!

Armor Boxes up to level 30ish (expensive, but nice).
All weapons.

Sigils and Runes.

Patience. He will try out multiple Professions, most likely.

Thanks for the quick answer! I think I will add some Armor Boxes.

Food and potions.
He’s going to need those for the XP buffs.

If you want to be nice, get him a selection of cheap dyes from the TP as well.

Low-level food items for buffs would be a nice addition too.

There’s also just providing the basic stuff he’d need at start that he might not think to get himself right away like salvage kits and harvesting tools.

Those are account bound, so he’d have to buy them himself.

Forgot, but you are right! Still, I was planning to help him through the basics the first few hours so ill let him buy those then!

Remember, let him experiment. Stay close (either in person or be ready ingame) and only help when necessary.

If he asks a question, answer it, but don’t try to explain the game to him (unless he asks).

Riiight I keep forgetting that. >.>

Well, at least you’re giving him some starter money helps so he can get those right off the bat and not miss a beat.

I’ll be brutally honest and say you are doing him a disservice by giving him items he can use (beyond maybe some decent sized bags).

He should experience the game as we should have (the satisfaction of earning, crafting and finding your own stuff).

Just my 2 coppers on this (but good luck with him joining the game).

That’s the way that lady luck dances

Thanks for you honesty, I understand you. It was my plan to make a welcome gift, so maybe i’ll just stick with the dyes, the mini and some bags.

Dyes, bags and cute minis are excellent. A hair or total makeover kit might also be nice. If you want to spend a lot of money there is nothing wrong with buying the harvesting tools as a gift. It is only convenience. The only experience he’d miss that way is buying tools from a merchant.

I think you’re spot-on with the dyes, mini, and bags. I agree with Brother Grimm in that it’s probably “better” for him to learn how to acquire the other things on his own. The only other thing I might suggest would be a small crafting kit that included a few low-level crafting materials. Things like 20-50 copper ore, 20-50 silver ore, etc. Basically, some things to tinker with at a crafting station to sample the mechanic risk-free.

I would just give bags, unidentified dyes (you know those are way more fun to open!), the mini pet is ok, and then stop. Offer to cover costs along the way if he needs it. When I was new to the game, a friend crafted me an armor set, which I thought was a nice gesture.

Bags and dyes are definitely the most appreciated by new players, IMO.

A fresh new lv1 character of your own account, in game leveling buddy is what he will actually need. Give him the items and gears you looted that fit his needs along the leveling jounery is much better than superior gears that you send him at lv1.

yep, in-game buddy is nicer than most anything else. Especially with the trait fiasco.

4 good solid bags is probably the best item, remind him that they are shareable if he decides to roll something new.

If you were going to spend actual money, I think one of the more useful things is the permanent harvesting tools, not sure if they have a minimum level though. I’m pretty sure you can gift them.

Some gold to get rolling with will help for sure, I wouldn’t craft much for a lowbie except on an as-needed basis. The gear becomes obsolete too fast. Maybe some consumables, especially if he is not going to craft right out of the gate.
