Making gold for a legendary?
Far as I can tell people who have 1000s of gold either 1) have way too much free time on their hands or 2) just got real lucky with drops. You can make gold grinding some of the ways you describe but there’s no “get rich quick” scheme and if there was, gold wouldn’t have any value any more anyway.

5-10 gold per hour sounds pretty good to me.
One faster way to get gold might be spending time outside the game and making money in real life.
After you have made enough money outside the game, spend $600-$700 buy gems and converting them to gold to buy a legendary from the trading post.

For $700 on a minimum pay of $7.25 requires a little less than 100 hours of work which is pretty fast to get 4455 gold in about 100 hours assuming 12.57 gold per 100 gem exchange rate.

This is about 44.55 gold per hour.

Play the trading post… if you need tips contact me in game and I can tell you how to play it to perfection…. few days ago I turned 40silver into 450gold in the course of about 20 hours… but wasted it all on keys like I always end up doing.
if you’re good at self-learning, you can try to figure out https://www.gw2shinies.com/smart.php yourself, but you’ll have to make sure you know how to check item histories/know it’s an item that has a decent supply/etc.

Just like IRL. Play them stocks!

As the first responder said, there’s no “get-rich-quick” scheme or you will have uncontrolled inflation. I made my incinerator in two months. All by doing 1 x Karka Queen, 3 x Tequatl, 1 x Triple Trouble, 1 x Breach + Vinewrath @ SW, 1 x sPvP match everyday. SW chest trains are only done on weekends and I don’t do them more than an hour a day.
My earnings are not very much affected by RNG. Granted this routine will take more time than a high-schooler with a part-time job can afford but that’s how it is.
You say your previous post wasn’t well written enough. Well, in this one, you failed to mention how long you’ve been doing your current routine of earning 5-10 gold an hour, how many hours you play on average a day, and what’s the number of days/weeks/months you hope to take to craft your legendary. Without these information, it’s hard to give you a good plan how to improve your routine or whether if your expectations are even reasonable.
At 5-10 gold an hour, you’re making way more than I can. If you can’t make your Incinerator (and you only need to craft one, just reskin the other dagger, unless you’re going for the Twice Told Legend achievement which is pretty pointless) at that rate, either:
1. Your estimation of gold per hour rate is way off
2. You have no discipline saving money.
3. You buy stuff that can be farmed while doing the things that earn you gold.
4. You only play 1 hour a day, in which case the advice is be patient.
5. Your projected timeline to complete the legendary is unreasonable, in which case the advice is also to be patient.

Great tip,. Should I follow the buy/sell of the site? Then I’m assuming i’ll gain the knowledge what does well on tp in time. Or should I do it differently? Thanks!
Dont forget to use laurels for t6 mats.
My first legendary involved me selling every sellable item in my bank and mat storage. Amazing how much money can be found when the hoarding instinct is temporarily dropped!
There are a couple things that can help you.
1. At 5-10 gold an hour you are doing ok. to straight up buy a legendary on the TP is like 1500g. That is only 150 hours of play time. Assuming 2 hours a day you will have your legendary in about 3 months if you just straight up buy it.
2. Watch the prices of things. T6 mats are less than half of what they cost 2 months ago. Now is the time to buy them. Save any you get, don’t sell them. Make a list of all the materials you need for your legendary and save what you need, sell what you don’t.
3. Make use of your currencies. You get laurels every day just for logging in. You can turn these into mats, ascended items, etc. Karma you will need a lot of for making mystic clovers, but use mystic clover recipe to supplement your T6 requirements. In your quest for 77 clovers you will probably get 200+ T6 mats.
4. Don’t buy anything else. This seems to be the hardest thing for some people. If you want a legendary then spend your money on a legendary. Don’t buy outfits, don’t buy dyes, don’t buy minis. Don’t buy anything. Once you have exotic armor there is no need for you to spend money on anything other than WP costs and progress towards your legendary. This will be the biggest factor in determining how long it takes you.
5. Do map completion early. You need map completion and it gives you a fair bit of gold, experience, karma, and items along the way. Harvest every node you pass while exploring and you will make a ton of gold. Low level mats are selling like hot cakes right now.
If you have many characters you can quite a bit of money in a short time from harvesting popular nodes like Iron and Flax, There’s 2 big flax farms in maguuma (one in Jaka Itzel and one in Tangled depths, check Youtube for vids) which take little time to get to and yields quite a bit of dosh, in Brisban Wildlands at the north-western most waypoint there’s a cluster of Iron nodes, I usually get these out of the way immediatly when I login, little effort for lots of shinies.
Also, just an FYI, you only need to make one incinerator, then you can make an ascended dagger and give it incinerator skin for same stats

Get a side job and buy gold with gems.
The best way, already stated, is to get a side job and buy gems with the income from it.
I make tons of gold by farming flax, iron, and potatoes.
Every day I take my 9 alts and do the Jaka Iztel flax farm, Gallowfields iron, Loreclaw Expanse potatoes, and Helliot Mine iron. All of these are right by waypoints.
I will have to look at that other flax farm.
If I have extra time, say on weekends, I also add in the platinum node over by where the golem world event spawns, (sometimes there are 2 rich plat there), and also I add the grape farm at the southeast corner of Fields of Ruin.
Each alt takes about 8-10 minutes. For the whole run, at today’s prices, counting sprockets, I get about 26 gold, a lot of which comes from the iron (300+ iron ore) So for about 1.2 to 1.5 hours, that works out to 17 to 21 gold per hour.
I’ve been doing that itzel farm on about 12 characters. If I wasn’t donating it all to the guild I’d have a ton of gold.
Also look for opportunities to flip mats into commodities (like IRL). Depending on the time of day, and how much gold you have already, you can convert flax to linseed oil for about a 50s-1g profit per oil. Just watch for folks selling things abysmally low and buy them up. Get enough and sell all the oil. Same goes for ore and ingots. This is something that shinies site cannot tell you about.
If you just notice what is really needed for things (oil is required, en-mass, for GH upgrades, oiled (vipers/minstrel) armor, and Nightfury and likely new legendaries too) you can turn a profit playing to others’ laziness to make the items from raw materials themselves. Just be careful because it can bite you back if you overdo it and run into a point where the supply outdoes demand and prices plummet.
Also, lots of SW runs and selling that course sand you get… mega money now that will likely drop in the future when no one needs it for GH upgrades anymore.

working for 18 hours nets you around 2000 gold. that’s two long shifts on the weekend for a legendary. that’s pretty much the only lucrative way to farm gold without spending half of your life in the game.
Wow since when was 5-10g/hr not good income…
That’s like what dungeon speedrunning was netting you pre-nerf.
Not many people physically farm 1000s of gold. 100s sure, but 1000s? Typically you hit the 1000s mark by using the 100s you farmed to flip on the TP.
But even so, playing just 2hrs/day at 10g/hr is 140g/week. That sounds completely reasonable. And honestly well above the average of what most people make a week.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Each rich iron or plat node is worth 25+ silver as I type this, i.e. 1 gold for every 4 rich nodes. There are all sorts of websites that show optimum routes.
Despite the critics claims, daily fractals are still decent sources of gold (critics are, however correct that they are nowhere near as good as ANet implied pre-launch).
PvP is a great source, especially if you choose a dungeon track and break down the gear you get into ecto + insig/inscript.
And doing just about anything in HoT makes money, especially if you sell the mats (and especially using custom sell offers). People want their mats now and are willing to pay a premium.
I forgot to mention ecto gambling. There are some guildy’s of mine that have made over 2500g doing that… but that will require virgin sacrifices to rngesus.

Don’t play with the TP when others are doing it, it’s not profitable…

Do people actually spend hundreds of dollars on a shiny video game skin?

Do people actually spend hundreds of dollars on a shiny video game skin?
Here’s how I see it. In the end I am going to end up with my shiny new skin. Now, how do I want to get there?
I can earn my gold by playing the game for roughly 150 hours and grinding, flipping the TP, running the same dungeons, farming, etc. Or, I can do my current job for a few days, convert cash to gold, and enjoy my skin. I skip the grind and get back to playing fashion wars 2.
A younger (single) me would grind because spending a few hundred dollars on a game sounds ludicrous. My older (married w/ children) self understands what I can do with those hundred hours not spent grinding.

Yes. They do. Players are not like 100% rational and a few hundred dollars is not that expansive for some of them. On the contrary, the time that would be otherwise spent on grinding is probably more precious.

You should first check any item you want to start investing in by going to its page and checking atleast 3 months back worth of data, then decide whether it’ll sell if you get it. once you do that, set buy orders up for a few items at a time, since people will probably try to get the same items you’re getting, and continuously bid over you, more items you have, more chance you get an item before that happens, then once you get it, undercut significantly so that your item will sell and people think twice about undercutting you, for starters.
I came up with an idea that I believe in theory might work and get you some cash pretty quickly. You need to buy the cheapest rares that can be salvaged to get ectos. I believe there used to be a rare selling for 20 silver, and ectos sell for 30 something silver. Just an idea though, not proven yet.
