so i have poured more than 1000 hours into GW2 over the past 400 days and i find myself at a point where i would love to get a legendary, but what is stopping me is that it requires such an amount of money in order to complete. Throughout the game i’ve had troubles getting past 20-25gold, reason for this i cant really say as after i have decked out my character with exotic armor, runes, weapon sets and accessories i cannot get the obscene amount of gold some players seems to simply be stumbling over on a regular basis.

I have had people in my guild which have had more than 10 precursor drops over the past month, while others havent seen a single one in their entire time of playing (rng for the win… SIKE!) Some people also play the trade post which for me doesnt seem like fun or something that i can wrap my head around and they seem to be swimming in gold!

Is there really no way to make money other than being dirt cheap lucky or spending hours looking up numbers and trying to play the trade post?

Yep, thats about it.

Either farm for $$, purchase gem and covert to gold, or be super lucky getting drops from toilet or loots.

Dungeons.

I made 50g the other night exclusively marathoning dungeons. And you get back what you put in, so no, you’re not going to make that in 2, or 3, or 4 hours if you’re not committed. That said, almost every path can be done in less than 15 minutes. So 15 dungeon paths could take as little as 4 hours with an organizrd speed team; or you could pug like me and take … as long as the Cleric’s pugs make it take. :/

I don’t see how you can’t get past 20-25 gold in this game. I have never played the TP, never converted gems to gold, have weaponsmith to 500, artificer and huntsman to 425 and have all my chars decked and I have in excess of 340 gold. I have been playing since February and I only play a couple hours a night 4-5 days a week.

Unless you are a WvW player only, you should have tons of gold if you aren’t spending it. It isn’t something that will fall into your lap, but it’s very easy to farm a champ train or run dungeons. The best time to have accumulated wealth would have been during the farming events in August and September (the invasions and the event before it).

I would run world boss event and dungeons. Doesn’t take that long to add up.

This^^.

I am a WvW player, I do no dungeons or farming, never play the TP, never buy gold with gems and and I’ve still got 300+ gold.
The only way you can possibly be short of the stuff is if you waste it on stuff like Legendaries.

Oh, wait….

To begin with, consider doing some of the less painful dungeon path such as AC 1/3, COF 1/2, COE all path, SE p1.

Not only you are getting the guarantee golds at the end, you will also get some good T6 drops (Charge cores etc.) and rares from big boxes and champion boxes that you can sell for good amount of money.

And with the excess dungeon tokens i usually buy the cheapest exotic (210 tokens) and salvage them with the best salvaging tool, if you are lucky you will get those inscriptions that sells for a few gold (plus Ecto/Ori/Ancient)
edit: forgot to mention, only salvage exotics with stat such as soldier and dire, as their crafting inscription are not craftable and only come from salvaging, reference here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weaponsmith/Master_recipes)
I salvage all of the blue/greens for not only magic find lucks but also chances of T6 mat such as Orichalcum Ore or Ancient wood, those stack up fairly quickly.

If you are not tired after that, harvest Ori ores and ancient logs on all of your available toons.

Lastly, you can do the champion train farm in Frostgorge, it will be very boring though.

Good luck on your legendary journey!

I also suspect you’ve been wasting gold buying T3 culturals/expensive skins and your mats on the TP as opposed to just harvesting/culling for them in combination with paying seller’s prices and not putting in buy orders (often for much lower) for the stuff you felt you needed.

Perhaps you’ve also bought your fair share of gems with gold? Perhaps you are hoarding named exotics for a rainy day? Perhaps you have an abundance of crafting mats for stuff you will/should never use/make?

I made over 30 gold the other night just by cleaning my bank and cooking mats out a little.

I’ve been combining these 2 lately and it works out pretty well. I suggest creating a personal guild (I used some laurels for commendations needed) and the guild bank so you can have a savings account. That reduces impulse buying for me.

Play the TP, do dungeons, farm open world events (scarlet), do world bosses, do ori/ancient wood runs.

DON’T stand in LA engaging trolls in map chat.

Good usage of Sike… psych!
