i never used them until today i though they were for everything then my guildie told me they have diff lvl depending on the time you got them in your story quest?? so should i just use them to mine lowest tier stuff since there noway to tell right…

Your guildie told you what wiki says, but it’s bullkitten. Eveyrone is getting 1 stack of every tool at the same point of personal story. I tried those tools, that’s how they worked for me:
Harvesting sickle – darksteel
Logging axe – darksteel
Mining pick – not sure about this, as I used like 3 of them to gather silver. But then it’s at least steel, I believe would work with gold fine, maybe even with platinium

I used them on platinum but they had a chance of failure on iron for some reason bug maybe?

The latest one I got I used and it worked on mythril, then I wasted it on low level mats and candy corn.

I think each one you get has a random level applied to it. So the first one you get could be the equilivalent of Iron, the next one might be as good as Darksteel, the next one could be back to Iron again or better or worse.

The advice I was given when dealing with any master tool is to try it out on one thing and if the result is a ‘ruined’ collection then unequip it and try it again in a lower area.

If you’re getting ruined items, or failure you need to upgrade the tool. It’s not a bug.

Digital: The thing was it worked on higher stuff without fail but didn’t work too well on lower stuff and this was one of the unique ones from a karma/heart person or from a recent story location. Platinum is better than iron but I got ruined stuff on iron with it.
