I have freaking 9 points and can’t spend any of them. What is Arenanets problem in creating a system that makes sense or easy to use. I swear i feel like every time they add something new they go out of there way to make it confusing.

You gain XP to progress the mastery to the next level and then use MP to unlock it.

Do you have hot?
you need to do first story mission in hot to be able to spend mastery points if I dont remember wrong.

Since your 9 points might be core tyria.

1) Select which region mastery track you want your XP from that region goes toward. Without doing that, the XP goes to waist.

2) Earn Mastery Points. Easier IMO with HoT because there are MP in the open on maps, similar to Hero Points, besides doing well in Adventures, Story episodes and misc. achievements.

3) Spend Mastery Points on tracks that are filled with XP.

It’s also possible the OP has simply completed more mastery points than they can possibly spend: I’m in that position. It comes from anet providing more than one way to obtain the mastery points, so players are not forced to do things they don’t want to.

That means for players who do most everything, you end up with more of them than you need. (Not that I mind that much. Meant I could buy all the LS3 masteries as soon as I gathered the XP, and then refill my mastery point count from the new ones on those maps at leisure…)

mastery system is fine. OP just need to read more on it.
