Mesmer, Engi or Necro?
I don’t know much about mesmer and engi, but i’m quite a necro lover, necro played as tank/heal is my main playstyle, in pve you can over heal a lot of dungeon bosses making “hard” fight quite trivial (ie : crucible p3 is just you healing your mate standing still hitting alpha, or TA p2 is just you cycling blind and heal until it dies), most of the time you are a better choice than a guardian or elem tank/heal. And you are the god of jumping puzzle, spectral sprint is a life and time savior with it’s teleport back that work even through a gap or while falling whereas most of the others, you have passive and active speed buff, F1 cancels fall damage (if you use F1, you take 0 fall damage no matter how high you fall from, it only consume the life force which recharge if your buddies dies from falling around you.)
In WvW your fear and your toughness makes you very hard to be killed and the F1 is just exquisite, but arguably mesmer and engi might be better. And you can use F1 or spectral sprint to trick groups of bad guys to suicide while you laugh upon their falls.
In sPvP, you are an excellent holder, even better than most guardian/war. I know that engi as holder works quite well, but only saw it once so it’s hard for me to compare.
nb : by “hard” I meant when you do it in pick up with not very experienced player.

Necros are very good at tagging in zergzzzz. Just pick up a staff and increase their area with death magic trait 10. And then you´re good to go.
Sorry english is not my native.
I have all three. I’d have to say I enjoy my necro best in WvW and she does well in PvE also.
I have two characters I use in WvW, a necro and an engineer. Both are good in zerg if you don’t have any trouble with ground targeting. Both can apply loads of conditions as well, if this is your preferred playstyle. Mesmers are very useful in WvW for the utilities they provide (portal, veil, …) but this has nothing to do with damage, so ask yourself what you want to provide your team with.
So mesmer is more for utility/roaming. Necro and engi for tagging and zerging. So which one would be better necro and engi? How these 2 are comparing with recent patch?
Do you have any issue with ground targeting? If you do, go with the necro, at least there will be specs that do not rely heavily on it. I find engineer to be enjoyable with the grenade kit, and it doesn’t even have an auto-attack.
Aside from that, necros got a lot of much needed love in the last patch. They are now good for both roaming and zerging, depending on how you spec them. I play a power necro, but I have heard that condition necros and fear-based necros are pretty enjoyable at the moment.
Grenade engineer is good for uber-range AOE (1500 range with grenadier trait, applies conditions, can be used to create a poison field, and no line of sight required). Plus it’s ridiculously overpowered underwater, which is a nice little fringe benefit. Also if jumping puzzles are your thing I think rifles can still be used as a sort of cheap way through some of them (jump shot). There are some other useful team-based roles Engineers can fill as well (elixir gun is good for support/healing, you can create water and smoke field with turrets, etc).
That said, I’ve put waaay more time into my engineer than my necro, so I can’t exactly paint a full picture here…
