Guild Wars 2

Hello folks,

I like to make one profession for each armor type, and I’ve already got Med and Heavy (Ranger/Guardian) but was having trouble deciding on which light armor class to make. So I thought I ask you guys.

For anyone who plays one of the above classes, do tell me what you found good/bad about it, how fun they are…Anything really. Any experience you can share about the above classes would be greatly appreciated.

The good thing about necro:
When you use the basic staff attackm dark energy materializes around the top of your staff making it look like a scythe. Also said attack has you send out a grasping hand of dark magic that looks really cool.

Oh and the starting equipment wraith mask makes your eyes all eerily.

If you can tell more about your preferences, it would help people give you better information. Do you like sPvP, PvE, WvW? Solo or group? Do you enjoy support, control, or dps?

Mesmer is the hardest of the three I’d say, and least powerful profession until somewhere around 25 or 30. But Mesmer can be really fun once you get past that initial “oh my god, I suck at everything” phase. And it feels really cool to finally hit that point where you say “wow, I don’t suck any more!”

Necro is a beast. I have no idea why a clothy tanks better than most other professions, but it’s just crazy survivability. The playstyle sometimes feels like you just survive until the enemy dies of boredom though, although you can kill non-veteran mobs in massive groups really quickly.

Elementalist is the glass cannon of the game. Super powerful at dps or healing or whatever you want to do, but dies to a strong sneeze.

ele is a relly cool class which is rather hard to play (that’s why I switched to warrior, even though I loved the ele ;-)
you have 20 weapon skills instead of the ten of every other class (with weapon swap) and unlike other professions where swapping isn’t absolutely necessary during a fight (warrior may switch between bow for ranged and ‘cutlery’ for melee), the ele needs to swap constantly. especially as some skills have good synergies. survivability is usually low – but there are ways. but as I mentioned, it takes quite a bit of skill and may not be for everyone.

in wvw, mesmers are my main problem.. they always misdirect you, teleport around (and leave a mirror image in their place) etc.. I don’t know how they are played but they can be really annoying to fight against ;-)

necro has insane survivability, and is extremelly useful in WvW where he can
take conditions off allies, put them onto a foe, then spread them to everybody.

ele has tons of damage and aoe, badge-machine in WvW.
but very very squishy. and not the easiest class to play.

mesmer isnt easy to play either, but he is very strong, especially 1v1.
and he has some pretty cool skills like portals, invisibility, reflective domes, and more.

I have absolutely no preferences when it comes to PvE/PvP/WvW stuff. I dabble a little bit of everything. I just wanted to get a sense of what each of these three classes are about from players who actually played them. These responses have all been very helpful, so thank you and keep them coming!

I have played a necro for some time now, and I have to say that for me the combination of minions, long and short range spells, and healing are truly amazing. You can have the minions take agro while kiting around with distant spells in a well of corruption. Yet at the same time rez fallen players. You have the perk of death shroud. When my health gets low I switch to this, and I get a renewal on my life. Often times for me it is what turns the tide when I solo against several attackers.

I’m currently playing as ele… and i wouldn’t recommend until its been fixed.. you can check a few post on element… to see the problem…
