Hello, i had to wish ask a Simple question about the Mesmer, i’ve been playing as a Mesmer for a while now and i’ve enjoyed the whole ‘Play Smart’ approach with them but i’ve hit a point in which i feel like i ain’t doing damage and mostly every fight i win is always a close one and never an easy one, i enjoy Solo play, even though i have friends in the game, i prefer the Alone gameplay in PVE.

I enjoy games where i feel like every hit i make DOES damage and the amount of effort i do on enemies actually shows but with the Mesmer i have to play 100% in every battle, i choose the Mesmer due to the fact it was the Profession which stood out in my opinion when my Original choice had been a Thief or Warrior, if possible could someone tell me if i’ve made the right choice with Mesmer as i use a GS & Sword + Pistol.

Second Question: What is the Best Attribute for a Mesmer?

Thank You

Not my kind of gameplay so I’ll let others help you out with a build for GS/ Sword + pistol

I can although easily take on 2-3 npc’s at once with the regular aggro add causing by my illusions. Veterans aren’t an issue neither solo skill points. And I’m far from being properly equipped.

You should try other weapon sets. I used to play with sword/pistol but I feel much more powerful with the scepter/torch + staff combo. I guess you could switch the torch for the pistol if you like the duelist.

Just try different combinations before giving up.

Thank you for your opinion, but i’m the type of player who doesn’t like standing back but i’m the player who like fighting my enemies hand on and why i choose the Mesmer was i wanted to have that hand on approach with some support from my illusions but it feels like i have to let them fight and me be the support, is their anyway to change that or should i become a Warrior or Thief?

I use all my clones as bombs. It’s kind of like the morons way to play the class. I just make as many clones as I can then run up to the guy and shatter them all in his face. It works pretty well. I use two swords.

I’m always in the front as I do need to get hit for the Chaos Armor and 2nd Scepter skill procs while protecting the clones that matters, to keep them alive as long as possible.
Also to proc the Ethereal combo “chaos armor” from leap (2nd skill staff) and blast (first skill torch) you need to be in front on the Ethereal field.

As I said, different playing style and may be you should try a warrior or thief and see if it works better for you.

I use duelist traits for crit rate. When holding a sword I have 60% crit rate. That also gives me vigor so I can dodge almost constantly. With defensive skills and dodging I am very hard to hit, never mind kill. I use sword/pistol and scepter/sword.

A fight might start with magic bullet (stun/daze/blind), duelist, feedback, leap(cripple), dodge, swap (immobilize, combos with feedback for chaos armor), auto attack, blurred frenzy, dodge and swap weapons, swordsman, illusionary counter – counter spell (block, clone, blind) …..

Also remember your shatters are there if you get in trouble. Distortion is amazing when you’re in a pinch, as is diversion. Also go ahead and shatter for damage when a mob is almost dead. Those clones will vanish any ways, might as well get area damage before they do.

Controlling the pace is the trick. Keep dodging and controlling the enemies with cripple, blind, daze, and you will do fine. If you just stand still pressing buttons you won’t last long at all.

1) Keep your gear updated. If you craft, don’t let your gear get more than 10 levels behind you or you will start feeling the pain. (Actually this kind of goes for all professions really…)

2) The “best” stat depends on which weapons you use and how you set up your traits, since you could make a case for most stats depending on your configuration. Without that information, there’s no real “best” stat because there’s not enough information to work off of. However, you do want at least some toughness and vitality at your disposal in case you aren’t living through things coming your way. The glass cannon approach gets punished really badly on a Mesmer if you’re trying to learn the class.

Personally I had a hard tome at first aswell but once I started gettin trait points I dound that duelest spec with greatsword and sword/pistol combo really works. I open with leap then my phantasm duelest and a blurred frenzy and they are usually dead, if not I can shatter to finish them off. My crit runs about 60% so blurred frenzy hits like a truck. If the mob is real strong I swith to greatsord and summon my other phantasm both are traited for fury(20% crit chance) plus when they crit they bleed the target. This keeps me up front in combat and seems to do well

Its sad/bad that your illusions are target bound and be shatterd when it dies. THAT kills the class for me since at least a third of its potential comes from using the clones/phantasms with your special tricks. But every other creep you start building em from scratch. Especialy in group fights this gets old fast.

That’s why in group fights you swap targets when making a clone, then back to your main target.

Edit: shatters aren’t all that valuable. Look at them as a helpful bonus, but the illusions are the more powerful part of the class mechanic than the shatters.

The common answer to “how to dps with a mesmer?” is usually to go Sw&P/GS, however I found a different setup that works really well in Scep & P/SwSw. At level 33 I am 10 into Domination, 7 into Duelist and 5 into Illusions. The only major trait I have right now is Empowered Illusions from the Domination line. Regarding stats, you are going to stack power and crit since it is a condition-lite build.

I mow through single targets at my level almost as fast as more DPS heavy classes such as thieves and even warriors. Groups take a little more finesse, but aren’t impossible by any means, especially since sword 1 and 2 do AoE damage. General “rotation” looks like this:

Start with Sce/P and load up iDuelist, followed by Sce #3, throw out P #5 if you want to keep them at range longer, but I usually save it for “omg” moments. If you have aggro, let them close and hit Sce #2, dodge and swap to sword and throw out iSwordsman and let loose with Sw #2 when they get close. If they aren’t dead, hit Sw #4 and they should drop, but if not, shatter the illusions/phantasms.

I kill almost all single target mobs with this rotation before the weapon swap cooldown is up. Regarding gear, I am in level 26+ greens, so that helps.

Not sure how it will carry over to later levels, but right now I have no trouble and find it easier to manage than any of the other builds I’ve tried.

Good luck!
