I’d say mesmer..

If you’re 80% of the time in PvE I’d suggest a ranger. If your PvP time would be higher than your PvE time I’d say mesmer.

I don’t know if ranger is better than mesmer for dungeons but in general I had some annoying problems with mesmers in fractals which required our group to re-do whole runs.

Its a toss up, if you like spending a lot of time at range both will do, if you like spending a lot of time both equally at range and in melee then i would suggest the ranger, of course they can stay at range if they wish also.

want to bring more and be more desired for groups? Mesmer.

p.s. rangers are great in dungeons and fractals, don’t care what the forum majority say i have had nothing but good experiences with them in my groups, maybe i play with good rangers, who knows :P

the rangers are among the best classes to duel … if not the best ever!

I’ve played both ranger guardian, but in pvp I used everything and seen everything!

In pvp ranger and mesmer that are the best in 1v1 or 1vs2!

For pve / dungeons the ranger can be divine or useless! Unfortunately, unlike the pvp / pve to make the dungeons you have to have a lot of skill in keeping the pet alive! But if you can tame all, nothing can stop him!

I have 1500 hours on my ranger and I love it more and more!

Why choose between the two coolest classes in the game? Make one of each! My main is a ranger, so I am inclined to favour them over every other class, but mesmers are unique and really fun to play.

mesmer>ranger for dungeons
ranger>mesmer for open world PvE
wvw… is subjective, im sure many people think mesmer is better, but i much prefer my ranger (mesmer is undoubtedly better in a zerg vs zerg though)
spvp… is subjective, i like both, but my BM ranger is more fun imo

I’m curious a little about this BM ranger I’ve been hearing about since patch with the extra buffs to pets…How viable is a BM ranger in a dungeon? Is it all just tank and pet do most the dps?
Also with the mesmer, I just don’t want to get people all kitten if I decide to say no on portal and or time warp at times. I’m sure it gets somewhat annoying after a bit?..especially for CoF.

BM ranger isnt great at dungeons… ranger is horrible at dungeons… i love my ranger… its just… not a dungeon class imo (it has some nice things; healing spring… fury… S+R… but… its not… good)

people asking for portals doesnt annoy me (but i dont exclusively play my mesmer; so i dont get it all the time), it just makes me feel more awesome, because i carried them past some ridiculously easy spacebar test
… TW on the other hand… is annoying… its good… but the others just suck in comparison (i mean dungeons of course), moa morph is only really useful in pvp/wvw and mass invisibility is too situational to use consistently
