I have ranger lvl 60 and mesmer lvl 15 , the question is which would you recommend me?

the thing is I like a class that can solo 1v1’s maybe even 1v2 to buy time or even win and to be good in WvW.

I know ranger is good in 1 v 1 ‘s but everyone keeps telling me to reroll since rangers are horrible in lvl 80 compared to other classes so I’m a bit confused.

Mesmer seems really nice with ALOT of escape utilities the problem is I don’t see where does the DPS come from and without dps I can’t do jack either

Not sure where you heard that rangers were horrible in lvl 80 lol. I have a lvl 80 sylvari ranger and have hardly any issues in anything/anywhere I play. I swap between the short and long bow during fights. I get alot of agro so I have to keep on the move. The only enemy I’ve had major issues with is on one of the bounty hunts with Displomat Tarban, was on me the whole time, so that one was a struggle.

But yeah play what your comfortable with and what you enjoy.

Ugh. Ignore the people riding the “rangers are horrible” bandwagon. I personally devastate in all areas of the game with my ranger. Try thinking for yourself and see what works for you. Your skills will be completely different from someone else’s, so you can’t really make the kinds of comparisons you are asking for. For what it’s worth though, both these classes are awesome, just utilized very very differently.

No, it’s not. Just play warrior for pve or mesmer/thief for wvw. You don’t need any other class for anything else.
The content in this game is doable with 1-2 classes.

Well it IS “good enough”, just doesn’t seem to be “as good as others” although I can’t say I’ve tried out all that many builds yet or even theorycrafted all that many ranger builds. Right now the pet just doesn’t feel like it has a very good ROI. On the other hand Mesmer clones/illusions/phantasms are pretty much always useful and when they aren’t, shredding them is easier than pulling a pet off of things.

Seriously, you think we’re defending Anet lol, that was a good laugh this morning. I’m not defending anything, he asked about rangers, I responded with my opinion being as a ranger is the only thing I play.

Do you see me putting down your class? No, play what you want and enjoy it…

Biggest problem with rangers imho is the horrible pet AI. It’s probably the worst of its kind in any game released during the last 10 years. But still ranger’s a very fun profession to play (got a ranger, warrior, guardian and necro at 80 and all other professions at 40+ so I tried) and I prefer her over all my other characters when doing fractals, guild missions or dungeons.

The ranger is not horrible the main gripes are the pet AI (which tbh i don’t mind as i micro manage it well and have it on passive, imho) and they cant contribute the way mesmers and other classes an in WvWvW as they dont have a defining trait / skill / ultility however that said they can area control very well if built for it and entanglement can lock a whole zerg at a gate while you tip oil over them, i dont see enough people using this tact, a mes comes along for the ride to portal you back up the top of the gate too so you don’t die…bleh.

Rangers are not as good as other classes but they are not horrible by a long shot, in Spvp (the mists) they are downright awesome point holders when played as a bunker.

rangers can have burst but you need to work a lot more for it than a thief, mesmer etc.

my recommendation would be a mesmer, but i am a mesmer and i am biased.

Mesmer is capable of some really nice dps.

Mesmer is by far the most finished class in the game. It has multiple viable builds to play that suit anyone’s play style. I think everyone should at least try a Mesmer. All other classes just don’t compare in my eyes.

i am levelling my second mesmer now, why? because i want to be able to see my sexy gear, Asura’s way too small and have 0 advantage against good players in any pvp setting, just like every other game haha.

and yes multiple builds i don’t think cover it, we literally have around 25-35 floating around some with minor changes that make a few big differences.

I have leveled a mesmer and ranger to level 80 (also a warrior, guardian, elementalist, and thief).

Personally I prefer the mesmer over the ranger. I don’t actually play the ranger very much at all.

I prefer the mesmer because
1. they have a lot of utility
2. they have a variety of builds to try out, you aren’t locked into a single build
3. They have a lot of combat oriented mobility (note: they have very little non-combat mobility).
4. They work well with both a zerg and small group roaming (although maybe with different specs).
5. Every group is happy to have a mesmer (which valid or not cannot be said for the ranger).

I find that completing a map usually takes around an hour to an hour and a half.
