Message suppressed?
Yes, you’ve been caught by the spam filter.
I’ve never had that problem, but I think if you log out and back in or maybe even switch characters (and then switch back) you can get around it now that you’ve been caught.
In the future, slightly change up what you say each time you post. The spam filter seems to ignore you if you alter your message each time.
Alright thanks, atleast i know the source.
Thing is I changed characters a few time, logged out and quit the game, but i still get that message. Would be nice to speak in normal chat aswell lol.
Thanks.
It happens when you repeat the same message 3+ times in a row.
You need to change up your message quite a bit to avoid it. This was implemented to stop gold sellers.
lol but it doesn’t since they rarely use words.
It will also bite you if you are the only one in the zone talking and you’re simply broadcasting large events to people that ‘might’ be in the zone.
I’ve noticed it seems to kick in if you have the same message sitting in your text bar for a while.
When I’m dead I like to wait and see if anyone ressurects me, and for a while I tried typing ‘Thanks’ in and leaving it sitting there, ready for when someone did come along. But I found that every time I did I was getting surpressed, even though I hadn’t actually said anything for about 10 minutes.
If I waited and typed it in just before hitting enter it wasn’t a problem, even if I said the same thing 2 or 3 times in a row.
I haven’t experimented properly but I suspect it’s a combination of factors – if you say anything too often in quick succession, if you leave a message sitting in the bar, if you re-post the same message too many times, or possibly some combination of those, it will think you’re spamming.

I did somthing to the following effect and I was slapped with ‘excessive messaging’ at WvW:
Team: Prepared to port in, tower timer at 1:00
Team: Timer at 0:50
Team: Timer at 0:40
Team: Timer at 0:30
and I was blocked from chat. Repetitive? Somewhat. So should I go instead:
Team: Prepared to port in, tower timer at 1:00
Team: Timer at 0:50
Team: Clock at 0:40
Team: Chronometer at 0:30
Team: Watch at 0:20
Team: Hourglass at 0:10
Is this a joke or what?
That would probably get suppressed as well.
Honestly it’s annoying but I’ve seen a MUCH reduced amount of gold selling spam since it was implemented. Same for mail suppression.

Do you really need to tell them every 10 seconds? Maybe just do a 1 minute, 30 second and 10/5 second warning?
And as LithePanther said it’s lead to a big reduction in gold selling (and guild spam) which IMO makes it well worth it, even if the system could use tweaking.

Personally, I think it’s insane. I get suppressed often for LFG. Since there’s no LFG tool, the only option is to broadcast a request for grouping.
LFG FoTM 10
is a simple set of keywords that have nothing to do with the repeated www.gw2walmart.com gold messages that hit every stinkin day.
I get so upset at the suppression rate, and yet the spammers, the real ones trying to sell gold, seem to be able to do it repeatedly.
I find that GW2 is very frustrating in it’s social mechanics, lack of lfg tool that would prevent my requests.
I hate it.
During the lyssa event in Malchors Leap I was calling out which of the three seals were being attacked.
Over a period of 11 minutes, I communicated 3 times in map chat, two of which were POI links to the relevent seals, the third was a link and the message “need more at [link]”. There was at least 2 mins between each message.
When the seals came down, I tried to link the central waypoint and got message suppressed. It had been 3 minutes since my last message.
Can’t remember the exact timings, but I sent a bug report with a screeny attached. 3 messages within 11 minutes (with nothing for 30 minutes beforehand) shouldn’t trigger it, thats just frustrating.

That is not the point. I can issue a time message x second whichever x is. The point is what is the criteria by which we will be slapped with this excessive chat penalty. As far as I know, there is no such official documentation telling us what is allowed and what is not allowed. This supports my impression all along that GW2 documentation is the worst of the worst in any game.
If the criteria are made clear, I as a very law abiding player, WILL religiously follow it. At his moment of time, I am still totally clueless on when I will fall foul of the rule again.
They don’t want to tell us exactly how the message supression works for the same reason they don’t wan to tell us exactly how they’re spotting and banning botters.
If they did the first people to take advantage of the info to find work-arounds would be the spammers they’re trying to stop.

My server guys all uses mumble to communicate. No one really want to use chat. It is almost a white elephant in the game. Imagine in WvW on peak hours where there are probably 500 players in one map and the chat is silent for as long as one hour.
This is a nice way of implementing something to see it goes to waste because you don’t want people to abuse it. I really have to hand it to the GW2 dev team for such MMO innovation that other MMO has not even (or ever) consider implementing. They are really leading the MMO innovation. Good job GW2. Keep up this excellent good work.
You only get an issue in chat when you decide to keep saying the same thing over and over. Normal conversations don’t get suppressed, and I can attest to that since i’ve had hour+ conversations.
I find absolutely nothing wrong with the current chat implementation. While I admit that it sucks for needing to LFG, you can word a LFG message in so many ways you don’t get suppressed.
Same problem here…. LFG 3 time and get chat BAN ! WHAT NOW ?? How to unblock chat ? Who is responsible for that blockade ? Support – do something with that LFG/LFP and similar.
It unblocks itself in a little while. The spam filter does it. They’re not going to do anything because its benefits far outweigh its negatives.
