Midnight Fire Dye Question.
Certain materials have a “base” colour that is mixed with the colour of the dye upon application. For leather, it’s brown. For metal, it’s gray/silver. Not sure what it is for cloth. That’s why the dark dyes you’ve previewed all seem to have a brownish tinge.
As a personal suggestion, try Midnight Ice. That one is black with a bluish tinge, but when mixed with brown, it might result in a really dark black. You can also try Abyss, but Abyss dye is EXPENSIVE.
Midnight Fire is an extremely dark red, Midnight Ice is same for blue, etc for others. On cloth Midnight Fire/Ice is blacker than Abyss. Abyss will be blacker on leather but grey on Cloth and Metal.
OP, the first thing to keep in mind when looking at dye effects is your monitor, graphics and shader settings. These have a significant impact on how dye and details are rendered in-game. What might look dull brown on your monitor, might look quite different on another set-up.
Having said that, as you progress though levels of armour, usually the quality of the dye channels improves as well. However this is double edged as your fine and masterwork dyes that looked ok on your level 40-something coat, can look dullish and lack detail on some exotic armour. This is particularly noticeable with expensive cultural T2 and T3 armour.
For these armours, you want the rare dyes that better enhance details and add some colour depth and variations in luster, etc. The very best dyes are the special event dyes that occasionally appear in the gem shop, or you can buy off the TP. However, these are very expensive ..
Regarding Midnight Red, the previous posters have explained how it works. If you do not like the dye effect you are seeing now, be patient. Once you acquire higher level armour, the dye will come into it’s own. It is a nice dye.
In my experience Midnight Ice works best on leather. It’s a slightly blueish black, which seems to counter the brown shade of the leather itself. Whereas Abyss (which is ‘true’ black) can look a bit washed out.
But if you think you’re likely to use a lot of black it’s well worth getting all 3 (or Midnight Fire, Midnight Ice and Black, which is cheaper than Abyss).
