Hi there, I’ll just give you a quick background. I joined the game early 2013, I was apart of a very small but active guild and we just ran dungeons. By the time we got geared for doing fractals we were always told “you’re too low” etc. That was around the time we all packed in as finding a solid fractal group was always a fail.

I came back around a year later and have literally done nothing but hot join in my spare time up until now. Since I’ve done quite a few of them I’ve amassed almost an entire set of Ascended gear for my Ranger. (Zolja’s) which is the class I’ve decided I’d like to play.
I’ve just been messing around and trying to get 100% world completion at the moment, but I’ll be honest it’s getting a little stale.

I do have the expansion but have not visited it yet, where should I start please? Is the purple gear I have enough to enter Raids/Fractals? Are Fractals still level dependent?

Also I have 100’s of various lockpicks and keys and thousands of Geode’s and dungeon tokens. Are any of them worth going to use? or do they just give you lots of junk items?

Any little action plan would be appreciated, thanks for reading.

- Ascended gear is the best gear in the game so ya that’s enough. For fractal, you gonna need to put infusion in your ascended gear to get Agony Resistance. But you don’t need any up to level 19 and by the time you reach that level you will get enough infusion to continue progressing.

- Fractal is not level dependent. That said, it’s a good idea to do fractal in level order and not skip them too much. First of all because if you go too high and don’t have the Agony Resist you will hurt yourself and your team. Fractal are harder and harder the higher the level so the more level you skip the bigger the step in difficulty it will be. In higher level people expect you to at least know the mechanics about the factal that you should have learned in low level. You have achievement and collection to do all level so it’s a good idea to do them all anyway. It also give you time to accumulate Agony Resist as you level up.

- You shouldn’t try raiding until you are fairly advanced in fractal. Raid is a step higher than fractal in term of difficulty. Looking up for a good build is a good thing to do in fractal, but not necessary. But for raid, it’s a must.

- It depend on which lockpick and key. Geode’s are usefull for specific item that you might or might not want. Dungeon token are always worth it because if you don’t need the gear they allow you to buy, you might buy rare or exotic and salvage them for a profit.

- Fractal have daily that give you added bonus. I would suggest you do only do the daily of your level and then start to slowly explore HoT maps. Try to do your map complete and do events as you seem them and try to figure out how the meta work, because all 4 initial map in HoT are meta driven like Silverwaste and Dry Top. Meaning that most event are part of a bigger meta.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll take all that into account. I guess I should start to find a guild for the long run. My experience with pugging in this game has not been all that great. Thanks again.

As far as HoT I would recommend that you read a guide on hero points. Some can be solo’d, some cannot. You need those hero points because they will unlock your elite specialization skills, and without those skills HoT is very hard. HoT also has masteries as a core concept of game progression. You cannot even glide without unlocking that skill with masteries you earn while exploring the expansion maps. Dulfy has excellent guides to help you find hero points and masteries to progress.

I would keep any key or lockpick. There is loot in those chests that these items unlock. Also, if you ever want to get masteries for Dry Top Ambrite weapons collection, the items to make those weapons are in the Dry Top buried chests. I was really happy I held on to mine when I was ready to make my Ambrite weapons.

I’m literally falling over those ambrite chests, i think i have 10 or so in the bank. Sorting through all the sand and different stuff is soul destroying haha. I’ve not even started on masterys as of yet, I’ve got a long way to go. Cheers for reply

I strongly recommend doing the short instance to unlock masteries. Get gliding (the story and a couple of events are enough to get the required experience). Then work on pact and fractal masteries. Anything after is just to your goals whatever they may be.
