I have been finding when I am mining Orichalcum ore specifically, that despite the fact I am using the Orichalcum pick, i get ruined ore chunks. Sometimes, I will get one, and then the other 2 ore will be normal, sometimes all 3 ore will be ruined.
It doesn’t seem to matter what zone I am in either. (Specifically today it was in Frostgorge Sound, north of the road, just north east of Frostwalk Tundra)
Yes, I checked to make sure I was using the correct gathering tools (i have lower level ones in my bags, but that shouldn’t affect the equipped ones).

Are you sure you were using the pick and not the axe?

ANet has been floating various stealth patches the last few weeks, and all sorts of bugs have been cropping up as a result. Lots of new lag, server DC back to character select screen from WvW, etc. My wife even claims there’s a place on one of the maps where some of the trees suffer from culling, so who knows what gremlins might be lurking out there.

It’s possible for gathered items to be ruined if you’re being attacked. Don’t harvest while in combat to be safe.

You’ll also get ruined ores if you’re an Engineer and swapped into a kit while gathering..

This has nothing to do with being attacked or using the wrong mining pick. Many people on my server experienced the same problem in frostgorge sound (Elona Reach) once.

They got ruined plants, ores etc, from every node or plant they where harvesting. This only happened in a specific time frame (half an hour or so) then the nodes worked again. So it seemed all nodes on the map were bugged for a specific time span. Unfortunately I can’t remember what time and day it was exactly.

I wasn’t in combat, and i was not on my engineer at that time (it’s happened to me on my mesemer, ranger and engineer, in frostgorge, malchor’s leap and cursed shore)

This issue is really annoying.

It happened to me with both laurel vendor gathering tools and normal Orichalcum ones. I had it happen with every kind of resource – plants, trees, ore. It happened in 80 lvl zones like Orr (Cursed Shore), and the karka zone (Southsun Cove), I am not 100 % sure but I think it also happened in Frostgorge Sound.
As previously reported it can be all or just one of the picks which is ruined. I think that all of the times it happen I was attacked i.e. I was in combat, but I am not absolutely sure about that.

I’ve been getting ruined ore and logs for a couple months now and all I carry is Ori gathering gear, I’m not sure if its actually affecting the amount I’m harvesting from nodes at all though.
