Mistfire Wolf
Mistfire Wolf is useful in some niche situations where you need extra DPS while exploring in PvE, but in group play (like dungeons, Fractals etc.) you’ll mostly be using other elites. As such, it’s not “worth it” if you’re thinking about buying the Digital Deluxe upgrade just for it alone. The nice thing about it though is that it’s a free elite to every single character on your account, so for lowbie characters that are still building skill points, it can be good to have.
Its pretty useful as a norn mesmer while leveling, I think.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
mistfire is a good but not excellent elite skill. So for endgame content it is not very good. But the advantage is that it is better then most 15 skillpoints skills, and it doesn’t cost you skillpoints. That makes it an excellent leveling skill.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
it’s only useful for lowbies before they acquire a real elite.
I don’t think I’ve seen it in-game a single time in the last year.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Un-used, you could of rolled human and had TWO dogs
The Hounds of Balthazar have the advantage of dealing damage more quickly, but the Mistfire Wolf is tougher than the individual Hounds and thus survives longer if you need something to tank a tough foe for a while.
In teamplay I can’t think of any class that would use Mistfire (or Racials) over their own abilities. So I’d honestly save yourself the cash/gold.
Even for solo (like mentioned above) it’s only worth it on some classes:
Mesmer – All elites are team (and situation) based, making Mistwolf a good choice whilst solo, but so do Hounds of Balthazar (Human) Golems (Asura) Sylvan Hound (Sylvari) and Warband Support (Charr)
Elementalist – The Elemental is most likely better and more versitile, higher up-time.
Necromancer – Golem has full uptime, making it in my opinion a lot better.
Ranger – Ramage as One is pretty kitten good for solo aswell as teamplay.
Engineer – I only ever used Supply Crate, which I suppose is better in teams, so Mistfire ‘might’ be worth it, but once again so are the (non-norn) racials.
Thief – Thief Guild is likely just as good if not better.
Warrior – Signet of Rage is amazing for solo-play.
Guardian – Elites are either teambased (mainly) or unneeded for solo. But then once again, racials are likely just as good as Mistfire.
The only arguement in favour of the Mistfire Wolf, it’s is free, which whilst leveling can definitly make a difference. I personally never lacked skillpoints (I just look ahead which utilities I want and I find most 10-skillpoint elites more useful for solo-play) I get it out once in a while whilst solo’ing. Hounds seem to be stronger, but have a longer recharge. (Ye, I exclusively played human so far)

You also forget that the hounds are a blast finisher
I seriously regret handing over the cash for a deluxe version of this game. Mistfire Wolf looked ‘cool’ so I bought it.
Waste of money. The extras were junk and so is this skill. Sorry Anet.

That’s why you either bought the CE or the regular edition :P

I got the Digital Deluxe edition and I don’t regret it. I got it mainly for the mini because I collect them but I like the other items too.
I use the Mistfire Wolf on all my characters at first because I’ve never had one get to level 30 and already have enough skill points saved up to buy an elite. I’ll also switch it to sometimes when I’m in open-world PvE or other areas that are relatively easy and therefore don’t need the most amazing build. Especially when I’m on my ranger, Rampage As One is good but it’s boring.

They are? O.o Wow. That could definitely make them more useful for some professions then.
The Mistfire Wolf also has a lower cooldown than the Hounds, so that’s another factor to consider when picking between the two.
I think its an excellent skill, well balanced in CD and strenght, helps a LOT while leveling.
Definetely a good skill, no absurd cooldown (like the norn forms…), and effect can be very usefull on some situations (no at all like some other racial….).
BUT not worth a digital deluxe upgrade if u just want it….
