Most fun/Boring classes in the game atm?
Welcome to GW2. You will probably get a lot of different answers because each profession has a play style that appeals to different people. You should have 5 character slots so I suggest you play around with different professions. As to your question in my opinion I have the most fun with Revenant and Mesmer (note Mesmers can be a bit lame at lower levels but once opened up fully are pretty cool). For me most boring is Warrior, Guardian, and Ranger.

Thanks! been thinking about going for revenant. do you think it’s worth doing world completion while leveling on my first char?
Well, in my opinion I’d look for a profession you think you will enjoy first before going for world completion. It can be a long haul if you are working on world completion and not enjoying the profession. Leveling happens pretty fast in this game so if you test out a few other professions you might get a better feel for what you will enjoy.
You might consider reading over some of the profession forums to see what people are saying about each profession. Fell free to ask questions in those forums about a profession you may be interested in. Just be weary of the people that constantly complain this and that is nerfed etc. Most people will give you good feedback though.

At level 33 on Engineer
- Slot Strong Gear (Power + Precision), use runes that add Power, use Minor Sigil of Bloodlust on your weapon (put one on your UW weapon also). If you need coin to buy these, farm some iron/soft wood and sell it on the TP.
- Equip Bomb Kit.
- Kill things fast.
Those stats/runes also boost Flamethrower and Grenade damage. Beginning a fight with FT 2 usually takes away ~1/2 a normal mob’s health.
most fun? it has to be the ranger. also the best option for beginners.
i dont believe that there is such thing as most boring class but to answer your question, in my own opinion, it is probably the necromancer
I’ll second ranger/druid as a favorite. Most boring? In my opinion, it’s warrior. But I tend to hate melee classes.
Honestly, the answer depend on your playstyle.
Engineer is most fun.
Ranger as least fun. Even more so if Druid.
Necro is the most fun class right now. All of their weapons and most of the skills are reasonably effective, fun and just satisfying to use.
Engineer is probably the most boring, at least in PvE. It’s a jack of all trades, master of none kind of deal. Lots of neat little abilities but nothing that really stands out or packs a punch.
Hm… i don’t really have a class i’d call boring to be honest… and yes, i do play all 9, if anything there are elite-specs i don’t like but the fact that i’d love to see the core mechanics be elite-specs to so that we have, in theory 18 classes at the moment (probably 27 with the next expansion) is another story.
Depends what you like, personally im not into easy to play but powerful classes.
As JT mentioned, it’s going to vary from person to person. I main an engineer and I love him for his utility, aoe, and quirky gadgets and gizmos. The idea of the toolbelt, slick shoes, and battering ram was inspired from the movie Goonies, as is the Fawcetts Bounty JP. Someone at Anet has good taste
Necro and Revenant are two other classes I play from time to time when I need to take a break from my engineer. They both have strengths and weaknesses, but they’re good fun. Elementist is also cool too given all the unique abilities he has. I only wish his special effects had more scale to them. Kind of like the spells in Sacrifice
Ranger for me was the most boring but only because I felt his skills were bland and useless. Traps are a neat idea, but mostly for roleplaying. Most of the time I just leaped around and killed things with my sword, which got a bit boring.
Engineer is probably the most boring, at least in PvE. It’s a jack of all trades, master of none kind of deal. Lots of neat little abilities but nothing that really stands out or packs a punch.
IMHO, the Engineer is the master of CC (Crowd Control). Equip yourself with a handy rifle and some turrets and prepare to watch your enemy be knocked back, immoblised, blinded or otherwise be tossed around for fun times all around (Disclaimer: Doesn’t work too well on large mobs, though).
Also, in this game, HOW you’ve set up your armor and weapons is slightly more important than the class itself. If your motto is ‘Live fast, die young’, you might want to get armour with Berserker (Zerker) stats later on in the game.
I have a revenant because I thought the new class looked cool but I don’t really like the playstyle at all. I’m close to just deleting the char and making a new char that will more than likely be an engineer tbh.
So far I have found Mesmer to be the most fun. Leveling sucks, especially if it is your first character. But the class is so versatile with so many unique and situational skills. Also has one of the highest skill ceilings I have found in games
All classes have very active builds that are fun to play. Most have passive builds that are boring to play.
My favorite gameplay styles are shatter mesmers (power and condi) and condi engineers, I hate playing condi warrior and condi thief.
I would base it off what you usually play in rpgs, then ask yourself if you want something flashy.
I’ve always had the most fun playing the more non-cookie cutter classes such as Engi, Ranger (out of the box builds) and anything else not the usual sword and shield build.
But different situations call for different builds and you can get burnt out with a certain play style/char build that you’d feel more compelled do change it up and try something different.
You do have several char slots. You could try several before deciding which to do world completion on the first time.
Personally I did world completion on my warrior first. I am now working on world completion on several others, all different races and professions. One has at least 75% while the others have at least 50%. I think I threw in there a 2nd warrior. I do enjoy “hack and slash”, lol.
Imo Revenant, warrior and elementalist are the most fun classes to play and explore. I have 5 characters with 100% map and ranger and engi were the most boring classes to do it =/
It highly depends on what you prefer and find fun.
Revenant: very easy to play, crazy high damage, the gameplay comes down to auto-attack on shiro stance and switch to glint for buffs when you run out of resource. The consensus is that revenants are OP but boring to play if you’re looking for a dynamic game style. Choose it if you like easy high melee damage with little brain input, for example to relax and release real life pressure.
Elementalist: highest dps in the game, low survivability, ranged. Most ele play staff dps with a basic rotation (2-5-2-7-2-0-2). It is fun if you want to go through mobs like a hot knife through butter. Better enjoyed in groups, it’s more demanding in brain input than revenant but is still perfect for when you just want something simple.
Mesmers: a lot less dps, but much harder to play. Ranged, they come with an incredible amount of goodies, enjoyable both alone or in groups. You won’t be an efficient dps, but if you are looking for high brain input, this is the class for you
Necros: quite high dps, high versatility. Necros come with a wide range of very different but still efficient gameplays. You can go condi, pet master, direct damage, etc. Very nice if you want to try different things and change once in a while. Not easy to play, it does require brain input.
Guardians: the only class that can be effective at range in heavy armor, it is also very good at melee. They don’t excell enywhere per say, but you can switgh melee/range at will without losing much efficiency, which can be interesting from a fun point of view. They have a high number of goodies for groups if you like to play support. Harder to play, they require a moderate amount of brain input
Engineers: the class you need if you like the idea of diversity. They can do a bit of everything, without ever excelling at it. You can litterally spend dozen of hours tweaking your engineer to try different approaches. Fun if you like diversity, horrendous if you want something simple and efficient
Thieves: very enjoyable and satisfying in pvp, you will suffer hell in pve. Perfect if you want to pvp. Very high single target dps, requires brain input.
Rangers/warriors: I haven’t played these, I can’t promise anything. In game, they have the reputation to be mostly useless ald boring to play.
It all go after your play style whats fun,if you prefer range/melee/support
But ranger is new player friendly for range and warrior is new player friendly for melee and I had fun with them
Rangers are a good starter character. Engineers are fun but you have a steeper learning curve with them. Most of the time the ranger is easier but I find with some things I have an easier time with my engineer. A good example is with the Legendary Wyvern Patriarch boss. My ranger’s pets die fairly quick and the multi-vector attack with pets are their main strength.
With my engineer I get in there with the flame thrower and deal damage. You have to keep moving with the engineer. I like to use turrets and the scrapper’s shredder gyro as distractions for NPCs while the engineer deals damage. I just wish the shredder gyro lasted longer and either locked onto a target or oscillated in a wider area while spinning. The rocket boots help break bindings in fights. Scrapper engineers are great for map farming because of the sneak gyro.
Thieves: very enjoyable and satisfying in pvp, you will suffer hell in pve. Perfect if you want to pvp. Very high single target dps, requires brain input.
They have one of the highest DPS in PVE (and possibly the highest against moving targets).
That being said, don’t try to go full zerk unless you’re a super pro player: use marauder armour instead (if you’ve specced in CS, it’s just a 4% DPS loss). The lack of AoE till you can use a staff can be a bit annoying against trash mobs, but Dagger / x and Pistol / Pistol can be pretty cool, even when leveling. And if you still have trouble surviving, you can take life stealing skills / trait / food (Signet of Malice / Invigorating Precision / Omnomberry Ghosts) that will pretty much provide all the healing you may ever need.
But as said earlier, everyone has a playstyle that suits him best. In my case, I find every class but thieves boring (except maybe elementalists and mesmers, despite the very low DPS in PvE).
No matter what people say, it’s going to be personal opinion. Try them all out and see what you like.
For me personally? Druid (aka Ranger) is the best for starting out. Decent survivability for most PvE but in raids and fractals is where they shine. They are pretty much one of the top go-to options for healers. Plus, the pets are really great. It’s kind of nice to go all “pokemon collector” and gain them all.
I evaluate by which one keeps me awake at night when I play. Thief keeps me the most awake, while staff ele (yes only the staff, otherwise it’s great) puts me to sleep fast. This is for open world PvE too. I think for any other game mode, it’s what I feel most comfortable with.
Ranger, Mesmer, Warrior were all fun for me. 30s to 50s were kind of a dull space for leveling. After the New Player Experience, leveling has been less fun at all levels. Even after NPE was tweaked, leveling still sucks compared to how it used to be.
It highly depends on what you prefer and find fun.

Elementalists are far from simple, if you do not rotate through attunements your playing it wrong, sure you may be able to get away with playing it simply depending on the situation but please dont call elementalists simple they are far from it.
Found ranger to be fun to play and interesting with many pets, choose your pet and name it as you can have a collection of virtual pets, you can also get a shark.
Thought revenant was the most boring, it does decent damage though.
any class can be fun or boring depending on the build. you can completely change the way any class plays by changing the build.
[TSFR] – Jade Quarry
Went with a ranger and i’m having fun so far. Don’t know why i didn’t pick it at first especially since my main in wow is a hunter.
Thanks guys!
Like it’s said; there’s no right/wrong answer tbh though maybe some leanings. This game offers everything to all playstyles even within a profession you can focus/play differently with spec/elite and such.
I am still newer to game, I’ll just state my opinion and it’s changed. Imo there’s early, mid, end levels you have to judge on. I don’t discuss one if I’ve not gotten it to at least level 16, as that’s when my least fav class became my fav :P
FAV SO FAR:
1.) Engineer – it WAS my least fav early on. No weap swap; I didn’t completely like dual pistol abilities/sound. I like ranged but overall prefer melee DPS. Once the hero points started; got turrets, kits, it was amazingly improved in fun. So much versatility. Maybe being Asura helps the style a lot; it fits too well with their race.
2.) Guardian – Ultimately fits my playstyle best. Melee and support. Not DH yet so no LB, I much enjoy GS and the melee kit of class over Warrior. Just love the RP aspects too. I don’t need to be top DPS class; but DPS/support heal or tank is where it’s at for me. Or pure heals. But this game isn’t about pure anything. I love the Paladin style so Guardian for style and RP is why I’m loving it.
3.) Necro – My ultimate fav kind of healer is life steal etc. bloodmage. But not quite there early levels; the shroud is interesting; I haven’t gotten used to that but it’s a much different aspect to build life force. It’s fun; that’s why I like it just very different; and I want to get more life sapping abilities though they don’t heal group greatly. I don’t enjoy the undead theme personally so I don’t play as often as I can.
THE ALMOST:
4.) Ranger – My ticket to 80 Druid – I didn’t use till I was in 20s. I love the pet aspect personally, range and melee mixed well. But, yeah there’s boring aspects. Druid I was eh about at first but I usually am a Healer, so it fits haven’t played enough as Druid yet so this could end up being my fav! I like pet classes and naming/handling it I like that more than many of the abilities Ranger has which can be a bit vanilla; their traps are underwhelming imo.
PETS = ONE OF MY FAVS btw; I LOVE this aspect of Ranger most; a lot; it keeps me playing it, but everything else to me personally is eh.
LEAST FAV:
Warriors – I tried; I love melee; but the GS/hammer/other just aren’t fun skills compared to Guardian or even Ranger personally. Charr Warrior, eh. I rerolled Revenant and much better experience. I know Warriors end-game are good.
NOT PLAYED -
Thief and Elementalist. I never liked pure mage classes; but I am unfair to ele reading more and feedback esp wtih conjurings, like a GS I can see how this is maybe more variety than Engineer. I’ll give it a try. Thief; unsure.
