Moving to Mac. Any advice?
I don’t have a mac but I could’ve sworn there was a thread or group of threads discussing the mac client. You should try and find that thread and see what people have to say there.
I use a Mac but I have been away from the game for a long while and only play very casually when I do drop in. Hopefully someone with more recent experience will be along.
The game plays pretty well and the graphics are lovely on the Mac but bear in mind that the Mac client is not native so you lose a bit of grunt compared to a PC. I have an i7 but even so, the game can crash or slow down to almost a standstill when there are a lot of players around. If I am at a big event, I change the graphic settings to Best Performance.
Don’t ever start the game from the window that might be left on the screen when you log out of a session or your camera will go wonky. That was so confusing to me when I first started
There is something else about turning scrolling gestures off too. Maybe this has long been fixed but I seem to remember that switching them on used to prevent you from scrolling forward and back when looking at a map.
That is all I can think of off the top of my head. Lots of luck and enjoy your new Mac.
Don’t use trading post with a web navigator open. Or within 10 seconds of closing another trading post window. Or too many times a day. Actually if you’re playing on a mac don’t use trading post at all.
I’ve got a Mac Mini, and the mac client works somewhat ok. It’s no optimized for gaming, so you have to run it on the lowest settings, and it’s laggy in WvW and PvP. May not apply to all macs, and I haven’t used the client on any other macs, so not sure what works and doesn’t for you.
They have a setting for mac’s special mouse, but it doesn’t always work for me.
The trading post works fine, just takes a bit longer to load (at least on my mac). Whatever @oxtred.7658 is saying may only apply to him, or others with the same/similar mac. In general, take everyone’s input about the mac client on a case by case basis, but take everything into consideration. It’s definitely not perfect, and I’d say still in the beta stages despite being out for around 2.5 years.
