Like the title suggest, does anyone know how to launch multiple instances of the Guild Wars 2 client? (without using a third party program) IE: Is there anything I can add to the target location or do something via the processes tab in Windows Task Manager.

Yes, this is legal by the way for those curious or unaware.

Dual- or Multi-Boxing
1.) You may use more than one account at the same time.
2.) You may use more than one computer at the same time.
3.) You must be actively playing on each account.
4.) And as stated above, you may not program your keyboard to perform functions on more than one account at a time.
a. For example, if you press W on your keyboard to move forward, a single character on a single account should move forward. The keystroke or mouse click should not perform functions on more than one account.

I have already tried running multiple clients, but I keep running into issues. When trying to install the client via the Guild Wars 2 account page, running the installer only seems to start the already installed game (no matter it’s location), INSTEAD of installing a brand new client to a different directory. Copying the files and having two completely separate folders on completely different drives has the same effect. No matter which client I start up, whether it be via the C: drive or the H: drive, they both link to the other one. When one client is open, trying to open the opposite client only REOPENS the one currently running.

I am unsure on Anets stance regarding the use of third party programs to accomplish this, such as using MultiWars2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj2VcL76U_8) and would like to avoid it if at all possible.

I am just wondering if MultiWars2 (http://insanedevelopers.net/programs/multiwars2/) would fall into the same category as the GW2stuff Overlay since it does not affect the actual client. MultiWars2 is only used to start the game and then the program itself closes, so there is no other interaction between the client and the program itself.

Fixed the broken link to Anets stance on multi boxing an macros.

It would not fall into the same category as the gw2 overlay, cause that uses api’s wich are getting a new policy. This is falling under the old policy. Using these programs are at your own risk. On itself the program is harmless so you shouldnt get into trouble. You are however not allowed to use it for multiboxing as you stated. Besides that you acknowledge you use them at your own risk. Arenanet can not be hold responsable for any problem or damage caused by this third-party program. This includes when your account triggers anti-bot detection software. If that happens and support is not able to see it is secure they wont believe you on your word you where not acting against the TOS.

In this case I always wait some time before I use these kind of programs and see what experience others have with it.

yes this seems an interesting post, firstly id suggest running a virtualisation, using a virtualpc should give different paths and allow both instances to run, dont hold me to this but in theory i cant think of any reason it wont work,
well maybe one xD
create a second virtual pc and configure it as a router then use its ip as the default gateway for both your physical pc and your 1st virtual pc.

hope this gives you a push in the right direction

That reminds me, someone was claiming some time ago that virtual pc ‘s can’t run this game due to the lack of drivers. I know from a few years ago that this issue was going to be solved. But I dont have any decent enough hardware to test it.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to do this?

In GW1, I had an extra account (or two… Okay, maybe three) that I mostly used for storage, extra heroes prior to full-hero parties, etc. Due to the nature of the trading mechanism, the only way to transfer items was for both characters to be present simultaneously. Therefore, programs like GW Multi Launch were useful because they allowed multiple instances of GW running simultaneously.

In GW2, however, I can’t see the benefits of running two instances of the client on the same machine. If you want to send items from one account to another, just mail them.

I guess the only other advantage of running multiple instances on one computer would be getting more Red Gift Bags across multiple accounts when the Celestial shows up to its feast, or whatever the equivalent holiday be-there-or-be-square items may be.

So, back to my question: What’s the point? I’m genuinely curious, because I feel like I must be missing something here.

The TP is so lag ridden in this game, that playing the TP is a slow and tedious process. With the repeated errors that it throws at you when you do try selling a lot of items quickly, having two accounts makes it a less arduous task.

You can either be selling stuff on the TP and when you hit your limit – swap to other account and farm dragon rares, or be selling stuff from both accounts at once.

I currently have 2 accounts and have been running them from separate computers. The benefits from this is that I have an alt account which I use to jump between world boss events, while I do other things on my main account. (WvW, Fractals, etc) This allows me the convenience of farming the boss events, without effecting my other main focuses. For example, I don’t have to leave a WvW borderlands when Shatterer spawns, instead I send my alternate level 80 out there to wait for the event to begin. In theory, this also allows for me to farm 2x the daily chest and boss spawns, assuming I am too lazy to do anything else. Ideally, I want to run them both a single machine which would allow me to simply alt tab between the accounts, without having to deal with multiple computers.

Hmm. Okay, that answers my question, though it certainly raises other concerns…

But I won’t derail the thread with it. At least not right now.
