I have been gone so long I feel like anew player all over again, I rerolled my main Engi and have been chugging along on him quite well….So far all you vets and gem store heroes:

What are your favorite gem store purchases that made you slap yourself in the head and think “man…I wish I would have purchased this stuff so much earlier!”?

Bonus points: How to manage the fairly limited inventory is it as simple as bigger bags? bank tabs? more bag slots? I have thought of rolling the alts I plan to level early to use them as storage tabs but maybe there’s a better way?

Ceremonial plated armor outfit for my max sized male charr ranger.

I feel like one of the “warbows” from the older rpg games. Only got it yesterday. should have had it along time ago.

On inventory. One idea is to get the sorting bags. Such as “common/uncommon/rare/exotic” provided you have increased the number of bag slots you have."

I currently run 1 Comm 2 uncommon a rare and an exotic with a couple others. Makes sorting pretty simple unless I just forget to sell for a rediculously long time. Having more bag slots makes things ALOT easier.

Gathering tools, especially the watchwork pick. No need to carry extra tools and since the gathering tools have their own slots, these never impact inventory.

Then the permanent pass to the Royal Terrace. I think it’s better than the Airship one since you are in Divinity’s Reach and the gate to Ebonhawk is also there, getting you to Fields of Ruin. But these permanent passes aren’t always available.

Lastly the two salvage kits. True they only save a little bit of coin but the convenience of never running out of either a basic or master kit outweigh the cost. And never running out also means never needing to carry spares, also an inventory saver.

Copperfed O’ Matic is hands down the best purchase I made in the Gemstore ever; It’s equal to a fine salvage kit (which I salvage anything but rares/exotics with) that can have 25 uses max. Silverfed O’ Matic is something I’d never purchase though as you can simple make a 250 uses Mystic Salvage Kit and I use it less frequent (Rares/certain Exotics.)

Second best purchase is the Watchwork Mining Tool, if you ever do Ore Runs (which I do when I’m bored/lagging or on dead hours) it easily adds 50s-1g per 30m run and the convenience would be superb if I had a main character since I’d never have to worry about not having any gathering tools.

Lastly Bag Slots (100 inventory slots just isn’t enough for me due to all the weapons/slaying potions/consumeables/second armor sets etc. taking up slots.) Bank Tabs (I got about 6, but 2-3 should be plenty) and Character Slots (since all classes are fun in some aspect of the game.)

Everything else has just been pure cosmetic. I really wish I’d played when Bunny Ears were out though. I’d do anything to get that skin. ;-;

i would say:
banktabs > salvage o matic (copper) > harvestingtools > bagspace, in that order
oh, and get yourself some gatheringnodes for your homeinstance, it makes dailies all the more fun (not profitable in the slightest mind you)

Firstly regarding storage there’s a few useful things I’ve noticed many people miss.
1) You can sell things on the Trading Post from anywhere in the world. This can be helpful in clearing your inventory without going back to town.
2) Carry a salvage kit and use it to salvage gear you can’t/don’t want to sell. Even if you don’t craft yourself the materials often sell for more than the items they come from. (Especially light armor that salvages into cloth.)
3. Use the ‘Deposit All Materials’ option (on the cog wheel symbol, top right of the inventory window) to send all crafting materials directly to the materials tab in your bank.
4. Bags up to 18 slots are very cheap on the Trading Post. If you have less than 18 slot bags in any of your bag slots upgrade them before you think about buying more bag slots. (20 slot bags are the maximum, but there’s a big jump in price between 18 and 20 slot bags.)

I’m not one to say you shouldn’t buy more bank tabs or bag slots but if you find yourself running short of inventory space and you’re not already doing all of the above you should definitely think about that first. Otherwise it’s just a matter of time before you fill all your new space and have to buy more, until you hit the cap. (I think it’s 3 extra bag slots and 12 bag tabs total.)

Copper-fed is the same as the Basic Salvage Kit, not the Fine one.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Copper-Fed_Salvage-o-Matic

I would never buy bag slots because with the kit I can break down white, blue and green items into mats that I can deposit remotely into collections. That leaves me with yellow and gold items and junk with junk cleared as I pass a NPC vendor.

Bank slots is understandable if you ride the boss train for all the ascended mats that will drop.

Copper fed salvage (unlimited basic salvage for 3c per)
Silver fed salvage (unlimited mystic/master salvage for 60c per)
Watchwork mining pick

As for inventory management. Buy some candy corn cobs and trade them to the vendor in LA for cheap 20 slots bags.
Bank tabs are also always wonderful imo.
As are the collection stack increases (if you do lots and lots of gathering)

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Copper-fed salvage kit and the silver-fed salvage kits from the gemstore have value for never needing to be replaced and can be banked to use on alts

Permanent gathering tools for main characters for the same reason, watchwork pickaxe recommended for ore if you desire sprockets for craft/sell.

~Inventory management tips~

While yes 20 slot bags are a huge help, proper mitigation of items help here is my advice.

Turn show rarity on.

1: (Fractal Uncommon Equipment Box) as this sorts green items straight too recommended slotted int he 2nd or lower plugs so that blues and whites drop into the 1st plugged bag slot space.

From here you can pick and salvage items you do not want for the MF or sell while freely salvaging all/any blues and white sin the bag above.

2: (Craftsman’s Bag) this bag pulls crafting materials to it, allowing you to sort them away form salvageable items and recommended to be plugged in a lower slot then the uncommon fractal box.

3: (Invisible Bags/Boxes/Packs) for storing items you wish to avoiding accidentally selling. I recommend plugging them in the lowest slots possible but not lower then an oiled bag.

4:(Oiled Leather Pack) This item pulls junk items into it, extremely pleasant if plugged din your lowest bag slot and collapsed, this allows you assurance any item in your top two bags can be salvaged more easily with kits.

Salvage when you can, and if you become proficient, while running, if you plug an oiled bag in the lowest slot and collapse it then you can simply click sell junk at a merchant to purge the bag for coin while it never dirty’s your inventory view unless its full and overflows into higher bags.

Use the deposit all button to clear your bags of crafting materials.
