My Engineer Woes
My personal belief is that the top level story quests are just too hard. I play with guildies on skype and they too are having issues with the higher level story quests. We have a mesmer, 2 rangers and 2 elementalists. All of us agree that some of the quests are just too hard.

I’ve heard from other threads that they are meant to be played with other people, but then why are the called PERSONAL story missions? Seems a bit daft. I know the game shouldn’t be child’s play, but it’s getting ridiculous and expensive to constantly fail all the time.
Ah well.
You know I feel the same way. I’ve put so much time and effort into my engineer thinking, Yeah the game must just be more difficult then other games cool. I create and alt and my mind is blown.
I’ve talked to numerous people about this so far and it seems like almost every single person feels the same way about the engineer. I really do hope to see some improvement on it’s survival on it’s own. I love the idea of the engineer so much especially with my new found Charrzooka, it just completes the deal but it’s just too much of a headache to die to single mobs.
tldr; I probably suck but to me the engineer feels useless without being in a group.
Criddifer, I don’t think engineers are too susceptible to damage myself. I play a Lv80 Engineer and I constantly farm Cursed Shore/Frostsound Gorge and while I agree that we aren’t the strongest in terms of damage output or ability to absorb damage, we are given a variety of tools to avoid taking it.
- Net Turret and/or it’s toolbelt Net skill.
- Thumper Turret tanks fairly well, and if timed cleverly can use its on-use ability to knock back.
- Grenade Kit slows
- Grenade Kit blinds
- Elixir Gun bouncing slow
- Practice with using Med Kit and getting quick at Hot-swapping Kits
- Land Mine aoe slow on proximity or detonation
I also use a trait in Firearms called Infused Precision (Requires only 10 points!) which grants you swiftness and vigor for 10 seconds on a crit! That makes you able to dodge a lot more in PvE leveling.
Master Engineer of Blackgate.
Whozaka – Yeah, I’m good as part of a team, being able to do a lot of damage as well as buff people makes the engineer a really useful person to have on a team, just seems like I turn in to another player when I’m on my own. It’s strange to explain.
Kataclysm – Thanks for your advice, the rifle itself has a net ability and it’s quite handy to pop that for CC and that’s why I opted for the Elixir B in it’s place for the long list of buffs it gives me. I used to play with the med kit, but found the bug where you can’t put it away with the same button you take it out with a slight annoyance and that’s why I chose the Elixir H until it’s fixed. I’ve never really played with turrets since early game so I might try out the thumper later on when I’m in game. The same with mines.
I’m not not enjoying the game because of this though, it seems a minor setback with the balancing of the game. It just seems to annoy my guildies that I’m constantly asking for help with a mission where there’s more than 2 enemies at a time.
It was like this in Guild Wars 1. Very hard on some of the endgame missions. If you didn’t have enough people in your group or the correct setup (Having a a healer or a monk was a must) or the correct build, you had to research to figure out a solution. I don’t really mind, but I hear the rewards aren’t that good either. In GW1 things like tons of exp or money or even the ability to get primeval was the incentive.
