I play on Maguuma server. I have been playing for a few days and I hardly bump into other players, no matter what time I play. It just seems like the server is empty or something…! I haven’t been playing long, so tell me if I’m crazy, but I think there should be a LOT MORE PEOPLE on my server, seeing that it is classified as a “Very High” population server. Since nobody is around, I can’t do any group events! It takes a huge part away from the GW2 experience that I was expecting, and makes leveling hard! I contacted support and they wanted me to buy gems to go to a different server. I’m very disappointed with the experience I’m having, and maybe there’s just something that I’m not getting. Please if you have any info to help me, it would be greatly appreciated!

If you have not been playing long and not too invested in your characters you can delete them and transfer to another server for free. IMPORTANT – Put EVERYTHING in your bank first before doing so. Your coin and other currency will remain in your wallet even after deleting you characters.

If you choose to do so I would suggest Tarnished Coast. It has a very good community.

Just Trogdor is right, you can change for free.
But before you do so two advices.
1: take your time to guest on other servers. you can do so by clicking world selection on the character select screen, clicking another world and choose guest. This will load in your current character into the same maps on a different world so you can easily try them out. This is off course very helpfull to pick your world

2: currently there is a discount on world transfers. this last till next monday. So although just trogdors advice is a good one, it might be more tempting to use the discount. But advice one to try another world out first is much much more important.

If it that empty, I’d ask Anet why they aren’t just putting lower population servers together and getting rid of the empty ones…

What Trogdor is describing actually exists and has been confirmed by Anet to be an actual thing that is intended. If you delete all of your characters, you will be able to change servers for free. I have done it myself with my alternate account.
