My first 80!
The highest armour and weapons tier, ascended and legendary. New living story, exploring the new maps. You make what will be your end game. There is no “set end game”.
I’d say dungeons since most people want 80s for them
world bosses
Fractals
Ascended
Legendary
And anything you could do before
As long as you enjoy yourself then you can call that endgame
Gratz! Now explore all things open to you; open your hero panel and take a good look at your achievement lists
Basically everything in the game is available at level 80. Some of it (like certain dungeon paths and world bosses) could be done before then, but even those are generally more popular on level 80 characters.
But some things that open up specifically at level 80 are:
- The highest equipment tiers, level 80 exotics have better stats than anything below, including lower level exotics and ascended equipment is only available at 80
- The end of the personal story and Season 2 of the Living Story
- The Arah dungeon (and a much higher chance of being accepted by a group for other dungeons)
- Fractals of the Mists dungeon
- The 5 level 80 maps: Frostgorge Sound, Cursed Shore, Southsun Cove, Drytop and Silverwastes (all of which have world bosses and meta event chains going on)
- Making a legendary – you can start the process before then, but even if you did nothing else it’s highly unlikely you’d finish it without hitting 80.
For many people getting to level 80 and getting max gear (either exotic or ascended, depending on whether you want ascended) also makes thinking about your skins much more worthwhile. Because you’re not going to change your equipment regularly you can get expensive and/or difficult to obtain skins and don’t have to worry about constantly ‘losing’ them when you get new gear or having to pay transmutation charges to keep them.
The way I see it is that at level 80 the game opens up and becomes much more free. I wouldn’t ‘t exactly call it a sandbox game but it’s definitely not a ‘theme park’ MMO either, you can go anywhere and do anything you want instead of being encouraged (or forced) to focus on specific activities.
