Mystic Forge Help?
I am no expert but you can certainly use it at any level. It makes gear depending upon the type and average level of the gear you put in. For example, if you put in 4 level 20 greatswords you will get a greatsword that is higher quality and slightly higher level. If you put in 4 random pieces of armor / weapons you will get a random of slightly higher level.
It is used for other things like high level weapons however at your level this is the chief use. You can also mix in 4 dyes to get a rarer dye. It is an alternative to selling armor and weapons that you cant use.
PVE and PVP are one in the same. There is no difference bwteeen the 2 gear wise.
The forge is useable at pretty much every level. It allows you to transmute materils up to a higher tier. As mentioned you can plop in 4 armors or 4 weapons and it will spit something out.
Its a gamble so just be aware you may get something good, you may not.
I haven’t tried it yet either and I am level 24……
So can you do three green pieces that I can’t use because of my profession and one blue and get something better?
What happens to the runes/sigil things that are in armor when you find them..do you lose them in the MF or do those being on the armor make the outcome better?
Can you put in 3 boots and a pair of gloves and it works still?
What about 3 axes and a great sword?
Are their recipes that will produce the same thing every time you put x ingredients in?
I have such a small window of time to play each week is why I don’t do alot of experimenting on my own and instead rely on this board for help, so please be patient!
When starting with the forge I would suggest to start simple to see how it works. I first put in 4 general dyes in and got a rare dye. The mystic forge works for almost everything, both PvP and PvE. You can put 4 materials in and get a better kind of material, or 4 pieces of armor and get a better one, etc.
The basic thing is that when you open the dialogue window, you see to the left all items in your inventory that can get in. If you put one thing in the things that won’t form a match will be grayed. Only if you put four items in that will have an outcome te forge button will come available and you will have an outcome. If it is good one?? well for most things the outcome is random so thats your luck.

The Mystic Forge takes four unwanted or unsellable items (such as soulbound ones, or ones that don’t sell for all that much) of the same type and gives out one item of the type given. So four dyes gives one new dye, not necessarily of a higher rarity if I remember correctly. As for weapons and armor, it doesn’t matter the exact subtype (you can use one chest armor, two gloves, and one leg armor) as long as it has the same level range and rarity (You can’t use a level 80 armor with a level 20 armor or a blue item with a green item). Not too sure, but I believe you can mix weapons with armor as well given the same level range and rarity. Again this does not necessarily give a better, or even rarer, item. However it will never (at least I haven’t seen it do) give an item of lower rarity.
As for specific recipes that give definite products, there are quite a lot of them. Try checking the official wiki or the Guild Wars 2 database site for more info.
You can also try for a different pet by putting in four mini pets.
