N00b looking for explanation of events
First of all..you will never steal XP..the system doesn’t work that way.
Second, if someone accuses you of this, ignore the player and even block it.
About the events, there is a huge Wiki available in which all events are explained. I am sure you will find what you are looking for there. It is not we do not want to help you but describing the vast amount of events to you would take up a lot of forum space (eventually ending in another wiki :P )

Thanks for that
Thanks for that
There is SO MUCH to learn oh young one..hahahaha
It’s impossible to steal XP in this game. From anything. If two people help to kill the same mob, they will each get the same amount of XP as if they killed it alone. Same with events: if you get ‘gold’ contribution to an event, you’ll get a set amount of XP, no matter how many other players contributed and how much they contributed.
My guess is the other person is also new, hadn’t read up on GW2 in that much detail and assumed it worked just like other MMOs they’ve played. (They’re in for quite a few surprises if that’s the case.)
As other people have said it’s impossible to steal kills, XP or loot in this game because everyone gets their own. Doesn’t matter who hits an enemy first, last, most, does the most damage etc. etc. Everyone gets the same XP and loot as if they had killed those enemies themselves.
The one exception is that you do have to reach a minimum level of participation (so you can’t just stand in the area of an event and level up). Occasionally if you’re in a very big group of players they might kill an enemy quickly enough that you’re not able to reach that minimum and so you don’t get credit. But it’s impossible for 1 player to do that.
By the way in case it comes up the same applies to items dropped from enemies: everything you see dropped is exclusively yours and no one else can even see it so you can take it all without stealing or having it stolen. Oh and gathering nodes, if you use it other people are still able to use it after you. Basically, compared to most MMOs, you really have to go out of your way to grief people in PvE.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Like other said, you can’t kill exp or loot here, so there is nothing wrong with
helping other players to kill mobs that they already fight against.
This makes the game also much more social than other MMOs where other
players indeed can steal your mobs / loot, and you often maybe think its the
best if there are no other players around.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
The only way you could possibly ‘kill steal’ in this game is if you’re a high level toon killing stuff faster in starter areas than people can tag it. Even this can be dealt with by the downlevelled player by waiting until other players got a few hits in before killing the mob.
Like others have said, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Though like Pixie said, it’s possible if one is a level 80 with berserker gear, and can kill things too fast even downscaled. When I help ppl in Queensdale, I just drop them my icebow and fgs as an ele and let them do the killing ;D
Another thing you will see as you are fighting mobs in open world,.. just as you get a mob near death someone will run by and get the last hit in that kills the mob.
That used to bother me (due to prior game experience), but I get the same xp in that case.
Sharing is so nice.
Now if ANET would “fix” the group kick problem/issue/whatever in dungeons and fractals.
Also material nodes are per person, you can’t steal those either.
