Guild Wars 2

I just got GW2 today, and i just can’t decide between elementalist or necromancer..

I’d like too know what weapons I should use on both classes for PvP, what their PvP experience is like, and what both their PvP strengths/weaknesses are.

I’d advise watching the videos of the classes on the gw2 website under “the game” tab i believe. They offer some really cool looks into that classes playstyle and abilities. But in the end, just open up the game pick a class and go with it. You’ll eventually end up rerolling the other one eventually. (or at least I would because I’m quite indecisive) If you like to blow stuff up with undead minions well go necro. If you like using something a little more lively (heh punny) go with ele. Its all up to you. Enjoy gw2! how poetic of me…

I havent made an elem yet, but they look fun. And have alot of options with each weapon having 4 sets of powers.

I have on the other hand made a necro expecting him to be a minion master. Which he is not. Every one can pretty much agree (expect for the people that just love to argue) that the minions are trash. My person experience with the necro only extends to level 30. which isnt even half the max level.
So take that for what little it is.

I’m still leveling him a little on the side in hopes that eventually he will be fixed, and minions will be effective.

The Elementalist has a very high skill cap compared to the other classes and is not rewarding for the diffulty to play it in PVP atm but im pretty sure this will be addressed in the future by Aranet . It is also most squishy class of all and has the lowest HP. I suggest you start with the Necromancer as first toon as it can have up to 5 pets out at the same time but as stated bv others they are not good at the moment. Some people even say that playing a necro is boring. In my opinion a Ranger is nice class to start with to build wealth and experience the game so that on your next toon you won’t have much difficulty.

I actually enjoy the Necro’s mechanics, and I was interested in a Ranger too but i just can’t make up my mind! I like ranged class tactics more than melee so i am open too anything thats ranged.

I’ll agree minions aren’t that great, but here’s my two cents:

I have a lvl 45 necro right now, and a lvl 19 mesmer. The reason why I love my necro isn’t minions (although the flesh golem is useful at times) it’s AoE / resilience. If you do the right build wells are ridiculous for AoE damage, and the resilience is awesome as well because you have Death Shroud for the AoE life force drain (huge dmg) and a separate life bar. I’m also really liking plague atm too because you can transform, do pretty good AoE dmg with that, and be immune to stun, daze, knock down, etc. Lich form is massive dps too but I don’t have it yet in PvE.

All and all, I loved playing my mesmer but can’t stop playing my necro. Really really fun IMO.

But yeah, minions suck. Don’t be a necro just for the minions, do it for the pulsating wells of doom that siphon health back to you :P

As for PvP experience I’m not very high rank but I haven’t had any issues winning 1v1s or 2v1s. Most times it takes a group to take me down because of Death Shroud / life drain / wells + siphon.

LOL i just enjoy the “Death Shroud” as a second health bar, and a pet draining life for me and possibly tanking. I heard rangers can deal some strong dps but i’m just really indecisive of what i want too play atm, necro is feeling good though.
