Well guys. I’ve finally made level 80 and it’s been fun and all. But I always feel weaker then everyone else. Like in Mount Mailstorm, I’m a warrior that should be able to tank a lot of the damage taken, atleast that’s what I think is supposed to be happening with the things I’m using…. That’s why I’m coming here and want to know what I’m doing wrong to make me so squishy!
My Class Warrior.
Here is my armor:

You aren’t supposed to facetank damage in this game. Active defense is what you need to do. Dodges, blocks, that sort of thing.

Only fools and heroes charge in without a plan.

OH and check out the Builds section on this

GW2 has a vastly different party/class-role system than other games. In short it rewards active-reactive & skillful combat as well as knowledge of encounters/strategies more than passive/inherent base stats like vitality & toughness.

Being “Tanky” in GW2 PvE (Dungeons/Fractals etc) is often simply the difference between being one-shot or two/three-shot.

I’m always shocked how much damage Warrior outputs compared to my other classes; (Mesmer, Guardian, Engineer, Ranger & Thief) — You guys hit like trucks, but it’s extremely important that you learn how to dodge & manage your dodge/blocks/evades/interrupts etc.

^^Lunar says it all. I’d like to add personal experience for your enjoyment. I once had an 80 warrior who was as happy as could be. I decided to dress her up in fancy bunker/tank clothes and give her a all the best bunnker/tank traits. She and I had a goal. Together we were going to see just how much damage we could survive in Eternal Battle Grounds. We held hands as we loaded onto the map and then skipped our way out of our spawning area.

One foot step out of the spawning area our immunity buff fell away and out of no where a thief one shots her and stomps her.

2 lessons. One: There are no tanks. Two: Thieves kill everyone and everything you love.

SoS – Ele – Burn Me, Freeze Me, Blind Me, Pound Me — Wait…What?
Warrior – The New Burninator! Strongbad would be so proud!
Guardian – Burn for you, heal for me, block for me and uh…sorry Im all out of gifts.

Hi! I am not a build expert, but you might want to consider different runes for your armor. I don’t think burning is that important for a warrior. Also rings, trinkets and amulet are important.

I don’t see anything wrong with Knight gear if you want to have that toughness, but I would consider changing the weapons for Berserker (power, precision, ferocity) or Assassin (precision, power, ferocity) as well as adding similar trinkets, rings, amulet and backpack. These would bring your damage output up some, which means shorter fights.

As others have said, no-one can face tank anything significant in this game, not for long anyway. Keep on the move. The best defense is not being there when the attack hits.

Hi.

I have not edited the guide since the feature patch, but not a whole lot has changed since then other than that warriors deal way way way less damage than before.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/DPS-guide-for-PvE-Dungeons-Soloing-More/first

I think you will find gameplay easier like this. Your trait choices in strength and arms are great aside from II in strength… get rid of that and replace it with either great fortitude or dual wielding.

If you have any questions, post them on that thread or send me a PM.

Lol thief problems playing as warrior.
This is how you play warrior https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQIsQ2tKsL8
As a warrior thieves should be the least of your worries. Necros, engies, rangers should be more of a pain than a thief.
Watch 6:35 of that video if you got thief problems, that’s how you handle them as a warrior.
BTW he killed 3 other players back to back and had half health when fighting that thief.

To be fair, engi and the thief in that vid are both terrible from the looks of it. He may as well have been running around a grade school yard punching 7 year olds in the head screaming “this is how its done!”

If their’s anything else needed please tell me.

I see your problem already. You have Engie stats on a Warrior.

All Warriors require Power as their primary stat. Your current armor has Toughness which makes you into monster bait. That’s why you’re dying. Take the target off your back!

Toughness as a primary stat is good for Engineers. They have medium armor, so they need the extra protection. It’s great for increasing the survivability of an Engie character.

Warriors, on the other hand, have heavy armor.

The best stats for a good basic warrior are Berserker (a.k.a. Zerker) and Soldier. For Beserker, the highest numbers are in Power while the supporting stats are Ferocity and Percision. For Soldier stats, the highest number is in Power while the supporting stats are Toughness and Vitality.

Soldier stats are best for WvW and Tequatl. Soldier stats work really well in Crucible of Eternity dungeon (COE).
Beserker stats are good for WvW (if you’re feeling really gutsy) and PvE. It’s excellent for the Cathedral of Flames dungeon (COF).

Your first, really good basic set up should have the following: Beserker armor, Beserker weapons, Beserker Trinkets, Beserker Amulet, Beserker Rings, etc. It might take time to get this stuff because Berserker stuff is highly prized in this game. If you can’t afford to buy new stuff, just replace your weapons with Beserker weapons FIRST.

FYI — It took me a while before I got 100% Beserker stuff on my characters. Just buy, create, or wear what you can afford. The weapons are the most important thing when you’re on a budget. After you get Beserker weapons, then go for Beserker armor.

Onwards to Sigils and Runes:

For weapon sigils, you have two sigils that need to be replaced. Sigil of Intelligence (SoI) is an Engie sigil that only works on Zerker weapons. You can’t get Critical attacks (aka Ferocity attacks) with Knight’s weapons.

The other Sigil that needs to be replaced is Sigil of Fire. Again, that’s an Engie Sigil that works better with Engie’s flamethrower & guns. Warriors in this game don’t have the tech that Engies own.

Keep Sigil of Force on both weapons. Just replace the other Sigils with Sigil of Strength. If you can’t afford that, use Sigil of Frailty and save your money for strength sigils.

Once you get your Beserker armor, you want to get one of the three rune sets on all of you armor:

(1)Superior Rune of the Scholar (most expensive runes)
(2) Superior Rune of the Ogre
(3) Superior Rune of Rage (most affordable if you are on a tight budget)

Only use 1 set of runes on your armor. Don’t mix and match runes. The Rune sets have to work together. If you use Superior Rune of Rage, make sure every piece of armor has the same rune on it.

The current runes on your armor, Superior Rune of Flame Legion, are best on Engies because of their fire attacks. Just thought you should know that.

For traits, you want to ask the folks in the Warrior section about that. The only recommendation I can make is get extended range for your longbow since the upcoming Living Story episodes will feature Mordrem which love to stack torment on the PCs. It’s best to range them with Rifles or Longbows. The longbow in this game has better range than the rifle.

And there you have it! I hope that helps!

As we love to say on the Tarnished Coast server: Good luck, have fun, and don’t die!

…please tell me.

Analyzing your build and deducing that you are using five signets due to Deep Strike:

  • Control: Crippled and immobilize.
  • Tank and Survival: Restorative Strength, Dogged March, Adrenal Health, Thick Skin, 2781 + 100 Toughness, 18472HP. Not bad, but lack more.
  • Offensive support: almost zero. The F1 longbow helps create offensive combos, then I see nothing more.
  • Defensive support: only blindness … could say almost zero.
  • Damage: almost everything is concentrated here.

Another mistake I see: blends the best direct damage weapon that has the warrior with a condition damage weapon… GS/LB. If you want to play melee/ranged I suggest GS/Riffle, aund you can mix berzerker/knight stats, so you forget about the condition damage.

This is a build I just made quickly and without noticing much in the stats. It is for you, to see an example of what I mean:

Overview:

  • Power: 2492 more “Empower Allies” and power boons.
  • Presicion: 50% base. With Fury you get up to 70%.
  • Armor: 2935. As soon as you lose 10% health, you’re in 2835; within recommended.
  • Vitality: almost 25k
  • Ferocity: 186% increased critical damage.
  • Healing Power: 300. This allows you to heal 3500HP every 20 seconds you and your allies. Improved healing received from “Dogged March” and overall survival (Healing signet + adrenal health). Also do not forget about “Cleansing Ire” and rune nÂș6.

We could say that is a Damage, Defensive Support (with some damage support) – Control (GS #4 and Riffle #2 and #5) build.

And do not forget the benefits provided by other players (banners, boons, traits that are activated in combat, etc).

Okay now that I’m getting the Berserker set. What should I do with my old armor and wepons?

You should be doing CoF p1 for zerker gear and for gold in general.
For your other gear, well if its not exotic and you don’t plan on using it later, salvage it.
Also you should be doing FotM for ascended gear, you can get it through laurels and WvW, but the game has agony in it and in the future the game could throw in a new zone which requires AR and its best to be prepared for anything so you should be doing FotM anyways, if anything at least get to fotm lvl 10 so you can start farming for rings and able to buy AR and such. That’s another thing about the game as well, fotm has levels and you never know the game might introduce something that makes those levels important.
But back to your question of being a good warrior just like everyone else, follow the meta, that video I showed you is pretty much the best warrior build in the game. Other than that you’ll just need to learn mob rotations and how to avoid them. Having the right build is very important, you could have the best gear but if your stats are in useless traits, your going to be terrible.

The fact that you think you should be able to “tank a lot of damage” is your first mistake.

Warriors can be built to take “more” damage than the average class, but there is NO build in this game that allows for sustained damage “tanking”….simply does not exist.

You can build a warrior that may survive 3 to 5 BIG hits (where a glass cannon will go down in 2), but that Warrior will have to make HUGE damage sacrifices and will be lacking in the overall contribution to any nearby groups DPS.

Being able to survive 2 more defensive mistakes and not making good contributions to killing the enemy does NOT constitute a desirable team mate…..

We go out in the world and take our chances
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
