Need Help Choosing. (Labtops)
My suggestion would be to find a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. Both of these have Intel HD Graphics 4000, and i wouldn’t choose those for gaming.
non of them several reasons
1. it has windows 8
2. doesn’t have a nvidia or ati gpu in them
3. check the RPM on HDD it has to be 7200 or 7400 RPM (I cant remember which) or higher
4. always look at reviews
sry if these are harsh its just basic stuff u should probably pay attention to theres a lot to know when trying to get something to beable to play games just enough for the price ur looking for so u just want to make sure ur not screwing ur self over
here is a link for some decent laptops for gaming and entertainment http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&Subcategory=32&Description=&Type=&N=100006740&IsNodeId=1&IsPowerSearch=1&srchInDesc=&MinPrice=0&MaxPrice=5000&OEMMark=N&PropertyCodeValue=2923%3A18470&cm_sp=Laptop223-_-VisNav-_-Gaming

Like alfista.6094 said, I’d not go with either as neither has a dedicated graphics card. You want a computer with a dedicated graphics card by nVidia or ATI.
I have to disagree with Oreimo.8435 on discouraging you from Windows 8. It is a good operating system and is better optimized for power usage than Windows 7. I’ve been running GW2 on Windows 8 since the release preview with zero issue.
I’ll also note that, while 7200 RPM drives are preferred, they are more difficult (and more expensive) to find in laptops. A 5400 RPM drive (2.5" drive standard speed) should be sufficient.
Searching Newegg provided two decent results. A Lenovo and an Acer. While the Acer does have an Intel processor instead of an AMD, I’d lean towards the Lenovo as it has a superior video card with twice the video RAM. That and Lenovo is known for better build quality than Acer.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
Sorry, but the word ‘labtop’ made me think of a mad professor for some reason.
Ok i know little about labtops and currently i play gw2 on a i3 HP pavilion g series. I run GW2 on really low settings and it sucks because this is a beautiful game. So im looking to upgrade with a budget of $600 dollars and have narrowed my search to 2 labtops and need help deciding which will run gw2 better.
If u find a better one plz let me know. Greatly appreciate it. Looking for some feedback.
You won’t get decent gaming laptop for $600.

Windows 8 is terrible. Period. Game developers agree with it, Steam owners agree with it (Gabe Newell)and pretty much everyone i know who has W8 agrees with it.
Even MS knows W8 is a flop.
thnx alot for the help will look into it.
If you have gaming friends IRL chances are at least one of them knows how to build a decent gaming PC for $600. Unless you really need a laptop, I’d suggest enlisting a friend to help you build a desktop, or learn to do it yourself. More bang for your buck.

Yea thnx alot im talking to my friend now i might just switch to a desktop. thnx
Remake or move this thread to Tech support, u will get more advised responses.
Ill keep this short, sweet and easy to understand …
For $600 u wont find a laptop good enough for GW2. Minimum u need is $1000.
A desktop on the other hand ..if u build it urself ..can be made for around $700-$800 and could play GW2 very well. I can put together a list using PCpartpicker and PM it to u if u desire.
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |
I have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE which I use to run GW2. It has Intel HD 4000 + AMD HD 7970M Graphics, and I can tell you Intel HD 4000 is not enough to run GW2. I know this cause with Intel you have the option to chose which processor to use, and if I choose Intel HD 4000 I get around 10fps. So I’d have to say none of these.
I can how ever suggest the Dell Inspiron laptops which come with dedicated graphics, doesn’t have the be the SE as that’s more on the pricey side of $1000+ But the Inspiron15R normal edition with dedicated graphics will be able to handle GW2 on high settings.
In-case you’re curious my Inspiron specs are;
Windows 8 (windows 8 works fine with all the games I play, it’s less resource hungry than windows 7)
3rd Generation i5 processor (Forgot which model)
AMD HD 7970M 2GB Video Memory
8GB DDR3 RAM
P.S It can handle GW2 fully maxed out and never drop below 80fps even through it’s a notebook. It also handles all other modern games I play decently

Unless you have and try Windows 8 you can’t make that statement. I got Windows 8 and I can tell you it’s better than Windows 7 for gaming. With Windows 7 I got an average of 60-80fps on BF3 High settings. With no other changes except upgrading to Windows 8 I get an average of 85-100fps. And from looking at the resource usage Windows 8 uses about 200mb less RAM than Windows 7 does…
The only thing bad about Windows 8 is the Metro (Windows 8 Interface). But with a simple tweak and modification you can remove that and have the default Windows 7 desktop and interface, and start button.

A lot of the newer laptops have a small SSD (usually 24-32 GB) in addition to a HDD. I’d say one of those combined with a 5400 RPM HDD is the way to go. The SSD is used as a cache in this configuration – the most frequently accessed files are copied onto it.
The SSD usually comes in a mSATA slot, so you can upgrade it to a bigger size if you’re so inclined. There are 480 GB mSATA SSDs out now. Price per GB is only slightly more than a 2.5" SSD.

Look for a Lenovo Ideapad Y580. Quad core i7, 15.6" 1080p screen, nVidia 660m, mSATA SSD + HDD. Can frequently be found on sale for around $800. Just be careful as there are a few models out with a 1366×768 screen.
Thnx alot guys actually found this http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_I/
Just going to save a little more and get it.
