Hello,
I’m the leader of a gayfriendly guild and everytime i try to recruit in the map chat i have to deal with people that start harassing me and it’s being realy annoying now.
My message is always the same:
" Rainbow Pride [GAaY] is a gayfriendly guild recruiting respectful people. /w me for more info."
Now am I doing something wrong? I report those people but i feel like Don Chisciotte, so maybe would I hve to change something please couse i’m really kittened (profanity?) now about these people and they are always the same.
Thank you!

Which bug are you reporting? Have you blocked these ‘always the same’ players?

Perhaps, your thread might garner more feedback in the Players Helping Players sub-forum.

Good luck.

I think the majority of the abuse you receive stems from the fact that you’re advertising yourself solely as a “gay friendly guild”

There’s no need to say you’re gay friendly, going by your message you’re practically stating “you’re different but we’ll accept you” that’s how i look at it anyway.

To put this into perspective, yes Gays aren’t a race, but, what if i were to make a guild and in the guild recruitment message put “Blackfriendly guild” you’d call me a racist and a prick, no?

Dear Joshua,
thank you for your feedback though i have some concerns about the example you did, i don’t think those are comparable cases.
That said, I’m totally ok with people looking forward for people who aren’t racist like the “Blackfriendly guild” would intend couse what i meant with “Gayfriendly guild” is just that our guild has no problem with LGBT people but also we ain’t any issue with straights (we also look for respectful people so racist ain’t good for us). I guess “Blackfriendly guild” should have no problem with black people or with any other race that’s respectful of them. SO i don’t get your point. I’m fine with this.

And about what you get by reading my recuiiting message:
1)Gays and Straights have a difference in their sexual preferences;
2)We do accept respectful players (gay or not);
3) We refuse unrespectful players (gay or not).
Yet don’t get what is strange?
I’ll ask you to write down a recruiting message for my guild so I can consider some changes if this I stated isn’t clear by reading mine.

Really, any guild message is fine, just don’t openly state that “gays are welcome”, because it’s treating them differently to how you would treat anyone else, and they don’t need to be treated differently.

I’m my message I state “we are mostly gay, we are far from homophobes (and any other kind of racism) and created a safe space where respectful players are welcome” not anything else. Why should I be harassed for stating what we are if we aren’t offending anyone?

Joshua, the OP can advertise their guild any way they want as long as they don’t breach the ToS. Just because you feel uncomfortable seeing an ad for a gay-friendly guild doesn’t mean everyone does (or anyone should; what century are we living in, again?). I’ve seen ads for women-only guilds – essentially a safe space for those who are sick and tired of being harrassed etc. simply because they are women and (insert shocked gasp here) playing a video game. There’s nothing bad about this; our server has a couple Turkish guilds floating around, for anyone who wants a Turkish-speaking guild, but wants to keep playing on a German server. So what? Doesn’t hurt me, and it seems like there are enough people out there who want to play that way. I’d appreciate a German-speaking guild, too, if I were to ever move across the pond and play on an NA server. What’s it to you?
Besides, how is “being welcoming to gay people” treating them differently? Isn’t that literally how you should treat any player, guildie or not? I fail to see how this is giving preferential treatment… Unless you’re a kitten to everyone else, which OP doesn’t seem to be.
The message you are sending is “I don’t hate gay people but I’d rather they don’t band together to avoid being harrassed and tell others that, too”. Really? Maybe that’s not your intent, but that’s what it sounds like to me.
In an ideal world, emphasising that one’s guild is gay-friendly (or anything/one-friendly) should not be neccessary because every guild would be. As it is, clarifying that the guild is a safe space and nobody has to hide or fear harrassment and insults might help people find a guild who would’ve otherwise been too scared too try.

As for the nitwits insulting you in mapchat, OP, if I’d tell you my exact opinion I’d end up with a litter of kittens, but you’re not in the wrong here. If they bother you, block them and maybe report them, depending on what’s been said exactly. And then keep expanding your guild.

PSA: The amount of small felines serves as an indicator for just how angry I am at something.

Red Queen,
thank you for your support! Your feedback is really appreciated!
And also thank you for expressing with a better english than mine something I was trying to say.
@Joshua how would in your opinion the majority of straight people (and also some gays) feel discovering to have been invited into a gay club by one of their friend only when they are into it?
I would like the answer to this question was “They won’t have any problem!”.
The reality is something different, so for that i’m clear on what we are, to be sure people that join our guild would be fine with us!

I don’t normally get involved in such sensitive topics, but I should point out that the most constructive posts in this thread have been by JoshuaRAWR. Red Queen, while you’re right, you aren’t changing society. Let’s face it: it’s not Salvatore’s fault everyone is being a kitten to him / her, so comforting him / her will not fix the problem.

Be practical.

To give you some practical advice as a fellow recruiter, try to lay out all your guild’s selling points. While some of your members will be looking for a community such as yours, I bet that’s not your only selling point. I don’t know what it is you guys exactly do, but here’s a decent recruitment message, from my experience:

Rainbow Pride [GAaY] is a LGBT (and straight) community recruiting good players. We’re strong in PvP/PvE/WvW; weekly guild missions; awesome events! /w me for more info.

Have fun!

Thank you Seal for your feedback.
I like that message and I think it will avoid some of the harassments . Even if I think there isn’t such a difference from mine in what it says ( in the first part at least). Of course this won’t eliminate all of the brutal answer but i guess I’ll give it a try.
I was looking for an answer like this.
Thank you!

What do you think about this?
“Rainbow Pride [GAaY] is the most social multiserver LGBT&straight community recruiting good&respectful players. We’re mostly active in PvP and PvE; weekly guild missions. /w me for more info.”

P.S. I also needed Red Queen answer, after a whole morning of discussions against 5-6 homophobes that cheered me up!

Hehe
Go for it! Add / remove to the message as you go. Also do consider posting on the Looking For forum; that will help you polish your recruitment strategy.

I really cannot be bothered to give you a lenghty reply, all i have to say is where on earth did you get the impression that i was uncomfortable with the seeing an ad for a gay friendly guild?

I was offering up alternatives so the OP wouldn’t be bombarded with hate and abuse in-game by petty-minded individuals, sorry if my suggestions offended you.

Also, If you think the message i’m sending is i don’t want gay people to be banding together, then you have serious reading and comprehension skills.

I’m with JoshuaRAWR in this: I honestly don’t see any point in stating you’re LGBT&straight in the guild ad, just like you wouldn’t state that you’re black, human or from planet Earth :P

Having said that, it SHOULDN’T matter how you ad your guild in chat (except keeping it always respectful of course) and people that abused you in chat are morons (cba to search for more labels, I’m going with the basic one).

I hope you guys get my meaning (sorry for my english… sorry for my english everywhere… /meme)

It’s a-me, Aria!
