Need advice - Buying a gift for a friend
The only real option you’d have is to buy a gem card and mail it to him/email him the code, but no idea if they’re available in amounts of less than 2000 gems
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Sold at Amazon & Best Buy but you may not get one to him today though…
Yeah, we’ve thought of that but there are 2 issues there.
1. Probably can’t get it to him today. However, I think Walmart.com and Amazon most likely could.
2. Minimum is $25 and we really didn’t want to spend that much on him. $10 for the sickle is what we planned.
I guess I really wish Arenanet had a gift option in the store that would allow us to buy items for other accounts. They could set it up identical to how it works today. You purchase an item and it’s e-mailed to you, but on the mail have a new “forward item” button along with the take item. If you take it, it’s account bound. If you forward then it’s account bound to that person.
You could also send him the money by paypal or a similar system and he can use it to buy the sickle, not the same but it’s an option.
It would be good idea to add a gift option though, since I’ve seen a few threads like this.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Just gather the gold from everybody and mail it to him saying “Happy Birthday you son of a kitten” from John, Bully, Merry, etc.
Maybe he doesn’t really want the sickle, maybe he wants to buy an expensive dye or something different.
good luck
Get a gem gift card yourself, open the gift card yourself, and give him the code to redeem the gems in game.
