Need advice upgrading CPU
So your wanting to keep your PSU and GPU only pretty much? O.o unless your attached to your shell, it sounds like your getting a new PC almost. Idk what board or ram you have but it might be better to get a CPU that works with what you have instead of building a new PC around the CPU you’ve decided you want. $350 will buy a shiny new thing. Give some specs to go off of for better advice plz.
Any board that runs a core 2 duo doesn’t run any model of i5, so he’ll need a new one for sure.
What could help is to know your PSU.
Also, I remember that when I had a core 2 duo system, my HDDs was IDE so I had to buy adapters, and those are really bad, if yours are IDE instead of SATA I recommend to also get a new HDD SATA3.
I won’t be able to help much with prices since I’m from Brazil and price-wise everything is totally different.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Have a look on Amazon. The prices are not too bad.
i5 4690 3.5Ghz,(£178)
8GB DDR3 HyperX Savage 1600mhz(£57)
MSI H81M-E34 (£40)
Have a look at these parts. They are what I’m planning on getting my self. Those are just ballpart figuers. And are the prices from amazon. You can get them cheaper if you want to look around. But some places I’ve found just look a little shady, and the prices too good to be true.

Hi sorry for the little info i gave on my system, I have a Corsair TX650V2 PSU and Asus 1GB GeForce GTX 560TI graphics card my motherboard is an Abit IP35. I like the card and obviously havent been able to get the full potential with my current core 2 duo bottlenecking and thats why ill need the CPU motherboard bundle.
If i could get a new system for £350 and put the PSU and graphics into that would it be better?

Yeah, the PSU is totally fine, I like Corsair and 650 can handle the new system.
The GPU will probably handle well too.
So new CPU + MoBo + RAMs will be enough for you to feel a big difference, what BrotherBelial post looks great for the budget.

If you’ve not go these parts yet, The rams fallen too £51, and you can get an i5 4690K for £5 cheaper than an i5 4690

I’ve been looking around a bit and still debating what to do. Since i’ve had my system for about 7 years now my case is a still half decent (antec 900 gamers) but some USB slots are busted.
A new system would be nice but i have already a decent PSU and GPU which im happy with the rest needs changing including a new hard drive. I could push a bit over $400 but im not too keen on building my own system and i wont have an operating system to use either.

What are you using for an OS? If its Windows 7 you can get a ISO from Microsoft on there website for free. Just google it. As long as you know your Licence key, you’ll have no problem. Building your own system is not that hard at all. It’s really easy as you can’t really put anything.in the wrong place as everything will only fit in the right slots the right way around. I’ve ordered the parts my self that I recommended. And I’m hoping I will be able to do the build sometime in the week once they arrive.
Right now the prices on parts are falling on Amazon.co.uk. If you want or need any more specific information. Just PM me and I’ll do my best to help you.
