Need help deciding
Heh … well Warrior is considered one of the strongest PvE class but one of the weakest PvP class.
Anyway according to dev comments and leaked patched notes necromancer should be getting quite a few buffs next patch(June 25) including a new Death Shroud ability which sounds a bit OP vs crowds but we’ll have to see it first. I don’t play my necromancer as much as some of the other classes but I don’t really have much complaints about it either aside from some bugs and limitations on Death Shroud(can’t interact things, can’t res people). On the other hand mind is built more towards power than condition damage while most people seem to go for all condition damage.
Alright well Warriors looked fun but again I am looking for a profession that is strong in PvE so I can get into groups pretty easily but also PvP without being to frustrated so meaning I want a profession that is going to be able to hold his own but not dominate and be considered OP.
It sounds like Necro might be good on both aspects not OP in PvE or PvP but decent at both.
Any other suggestions out there? I will probably wait a few days and mess around with the different looks of the different races so I am set go with a profession and race once I get the communities help on my decision.
There is Guardian. Seems to be good in every format.
Mesmer is strong everywhere, and should have no problems finding groups. It also has some fairly unique play styles.
Like others have said, Necro is scheduled for some loving next week, though remains to be seen if it’s enough or not. That said, despite all the QQ, they are not in any way useless.
Note1: All classes have both ranged and melee options, most often set by the weapon you’re holding. So a War can go Longbow/Rifle for range, or a Ranger can go Sword/Greatsword for melee. As such, there are not strictly “Ranged Professions”, though some classes have more options at some ranges than others.
Note2: The time it takes to get an alt up to L80 and fully geared is far far less than what you’re used to in other MMOs. Getting a level an hour is done without trying very hard. If you’re leeching off your main, then getting geared at L80 takes about 20 minutes of talking with the Trading Post (and spending money a well established main could earn in under week of casual play). As such, you’re much more likely to have several professions to rotate through.
please become an elementalist
we need more theory crafters. But honestly all the profession specific forums are negative (except for thief and mesmer and warrior only about pvp)
What helped me choose was youtube. Watch famous youtubers of each profession and see which you like best.
Nemesis-Necromancer
Daphoenix/Woodenpotatoes- Elementalist
Dontain- Warrior
etc.
You might also enjoy the guardian but I hope you’ll give the elementalist a try.

I agree on this.
I think you can stick with necromancer because of the comming updates, it also fits your gaming-experiences and preferences with other mmo’s. It’s true they didn’t have much attention from devs last months so I can relate to all the necro’s complaining, but I hope and think that should be over or less, soon.
