Hello gamers!
I need some help from people who understand quite a lot from computer stats. I will soon get a new laptop and I have to make a choice quick. My budget is quite low and I know that the choices I listed below are not the best for gaming but I just want to know if they are at least better than what I have now. Right now I have:
Dell Inspiron laptop
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz 2.30 GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M version 306.97
RAM: 4GB
System Type: 64-bit

My choice is between

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ASUS_K53SD-SX103V_1152439.html

and

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Asus_K55VD_Core_i7_Windows_7_Laptop__K55VD-SX047V/version.asp

The difference between them is almost £100, so I would like to know why. I know that the i7 processor is better than my i5. What I would like to know is if the graphics card is at least a little better than on my dell. Currently on Dell guild wars 2 runs okay on low/medium settings, but gets quite laggy in populated areas. I would like to know if my choice would improve the performance a little. Also, I’m choosing Asus instead of Dell as I heard Asus laptops are one of the best, any opinions on this? (One of the rumors I agree with about Dell is that it overheats quickly-which is true, had to change fan after less than a year of usage.)
Thank you very much, I appreciate your advice

Personally I run an i7 processor. I can barely run GW2 without lag. I would personally go for sticking with an i5 for a better video card.
I don’t know about Asus, but Dell customer support is the best I have ever experienced. If anything goes wrong, you know Dell will fix it.

Dell also produces the Alienware line of laptops. Have a look at them as well (heard decent reviews about the M17x).

Also, why a laptop over a desktop?

@Ranyella
The best advice I can give you is not to play demanding games on a laptop. They don’t have adequate cooling for the high stress/heat placed on the cpu and gpu while running these games. You will seriously shorten the life of the laptop.

Use the money to build a decent gaming desktop instead.

I have to agree with OhhGasm. If drop down to an i5 and aim for better graphics. If possible go with atleast a nvidia 645m series graphics.

The reason why not a desktop is that I’m at uni, and sometimes need to take it with me. Plus I’m moving around like every year (left my home to live and study abroad) so it would be quite difficult to deal with a desktop pc.

Thanks for advice on taking the i5 and a better graphics card.

Trust me, I know that I should invest in a better computer, I even know addresses that do that, but unfortunately my budget is quite low (someday I will get Alienware)

I just wanted to know which is the best from the options I have.

Yeah, an i5 is probably a better choice since the difference from an i7 will hardly be noticeable. I personally prefer desktops over laptops because they can easily be upgraded over time. With a laptop, you’re usually stuck with what you have for the most part.

In my opinion, laptops are not the best for gaming but to each their own. I’ll also add that there’s a ton of online help so customer service should not really be a factor in your decision. I had Dell for 10 years and I never had to call their service line. I’m sure you’ve heard this before but building your computer is a good alternative and you don’t really need that much experience to do it. Most of it is straightforward.

Having worked for computer companies ill just go ahead and throw this out there. Besides the shiny case the parts in the Alienware are no different that the standard ones in any other high end dell machine. For the same price you can normally get a much better machine if you can look past the name.

Also just to help you out a bit more.

That computer is as close to what you need as i could find. While i personally would spend a little more to get a quad core i5 as long as you can clock up this chip a bit it should do ok. Also to note I would rather see that with a 645m but a 640 will do.

Added this link so you can see the performance boost between the cards. For budget reasons going with a 645 or 650 is pribally your best performance for the price.

I suggest getting a desktop, but if I had to choose one I would choose the second one.
Also Alienware is VERY overpriced, but they are good computers, if you have the money, sure go ahead but don;t stress about it.

It was mentioned earlier that there in need of the mobility that a notebook gives you. Which is why a desktop is out of the question.

Yeah don´t believe the hype.

As you actually have to stay mobile that Acer Aspire M3-581TG is indeed your best bet.

If you want to game on it, avoid all those 610m cards like the plague.
That memory interface width is key, it should always be 128bit or higher.

To those above, unless you are video rendering, you do not need an I7. That said, I am not sure if you are still looking for advice or not. However, these are my two cents. Computer brands do not matter, unless you are comparing the companies warranties and the overall price for the computer. Most of the time when people blacklist a company, they do so due to a bad experience. What they do not realize is, any monkey can put together a computer; and any monkey can horsekitten your computer to kingdom come. All that matters is what the computer has inside of it. Frankly, anybody who says otherwise is trending on ignorance or stupidity.
The graphics card in both of those laptops you linked is a Tier 3 card. Meaning you are going to be running Guild Was 2 at around 30 frames per second, on medium-high settings. If all you want to do is play Guild Wars 2 then this should be just fine for you. If you are like myself and want to play on higher settings, as well as having a more future resistant laptop; I’ll link you some better suggestions. The linked suggestions will be around the same price as the ones you are looking at.
