Need help on picking a character and a race.
Not sure if this helps as i have only been playing GW2 for about a month but, i have a level 54 asura thief and im finding it hard to get used to the thief play style as it all seems to involve going invisible then smashing your enemy and going invisible then smashing them again etc.. so they cant hit you. I suck at this so have resorted to spamming my short bow in WvW and a dagger/pistol setup for PvE, solo play as a thief is relatively easy just summon your twins to help if you get into a big fight and keep going stealth to heal then return to the fight, in WvW its not this easy but i’ll keep at it until i reach level 80 and see how level 80 gear changes things in WvW and hope i meet a few other theifs to teach me how to be a pain in the standard A** theif.
Its a pain as requires alot of concentration it seems and you are very squishy! I tried a sylvari ranger and i personally didnt click with it that well, not sure why but i didnt find it that fun, I have however started up a human warrior(boring choice i know) but its so much fun charging in swinging your axes/greatsword like a drunken lunatic, you also have MUCH more health than theif.
Thief and elemental it’s are the two professions that I have not leveled to 80. Just cannot get the hang of how to play them. Had the same problem with Mesmer but gutted thru that toon.
My ranger has. 5 sets of exotic gear because as I learned more about the game and wanted to do different things I found gear that helped meet that goal.
My point is that there are 8 classes each with numerous builds and configurations. As you play you will discover new aspects of the game; your personal approach will change.
Just stay positive and experiment. What someone says is the best build or way to play a character may not work for you. Read/listen to what they say, apply your own criteria then decide how to proceed.
Check the profession forums here. Many helpful people there.
Good luck and hope stick with it.
