Guild Wars 2

After talking to some guild members, wondering how my damage compares, it seems no matter what class I roll, my numbers are not even a fraction of theirs…

They said they hit around 5,000 a hit at level 30 as a warrior… my level 33 mesmer, with power gear and power traits, hits 500 on average… On my Thief, a backstab is only getting me around 500 at level 20… I can’t imagine anything close to 5,000 in 10 levels…

Am I just that terrible of a player, to where I can’t make anything hit very hard?

I’m my level 70 thief, although down levelled to 60 at the moment, only hits in the hundreds not the thousands. Perhaps there is room for one more in the fail club?

What skill are they using, and what is their build/gear?

And don’t worry, on my 80 Necromancer, I do maybe 300-400 (albeit I have everything in condition damage).

Ok, so I was being deceived when they said at level 80 they put out 35k damage in 3 skills which can be reused every 6 seconds? He just said he sacrifices a lot of survivability for that damage…. I sacrifice any vitality and toughness for power and hit like a wet paper bag in comparison, if what he states is correct.

I really do enjoy the mesmer gameplay, but if I am truly only hitting one hundredth of what he does, I feel I need to reroll… But when I saw similar numbers with my thief, I was even more blown away.

You fell for the oldest trick in the book: HYPERBOLE.

A warrior can hit that with “Hundred Blades”. It’s a skill which hits 8 times.

Or, if they hit a critter.

You don’t fail at life. breath a sigh of relief…you’re fine. While warriors can do a ton of damage, it is not as high as he stated. Also, a warrior’s insane output of damage is from “hundred blades” which they have to stand still to use.

If you are having a blast as a mesmer, then rerolling would be nuts. Enjoy!

I hit a critter for 314k damage in a single hit. But I don’t use that as a gauge for my PvE or PvP performance lol.

Gear scales with level. So a level 30 warrior in all level 30 gear is maximized for damage. Once he hits level 33 in his same level 30 gear he is doing less damage.

Also, Thieves have a tough time til 80 in all 80 gear. (This has been my observation of thieves. I do not play one)

Also, in wvw, having all the orbs on my side, (exotic toughness build) I have taken the most damage from a warrior. 10,421 from eviscerate. But thieves often kill me quicker IMO but I never have the hard data to support that because it is never 1 huge attack.

I get the feeling that your guildmate is just making a slight misunderstanding when reading the damage he does.

He’s probably adding up each damage number that pops up, for example when you use 100 blades first you’ll see a 400, then on the skill’s second strike you will see 800, this does not mean you just did 1200 damage, the skill is simply adding up the two strikes of 400 for you into an 800 and this goes all the way up to 8 strikes, but the numbers you see are just the summed totals, not individual damage hits.

That said I’m not a “pro” at this game, but I feel that 35k damage is somewhat exaggerated, the most damage i’ve ever done after using hundred blades was around 12k, BUT it was some dynamic event where the mob was debuffed to hell and I had god knows how many stacks of might and boons from the zerg.

With my auto attack though, i think i do like 600 damage per swing at 80 with an exotic weapon … -_- so if anything your 500 at lvl 33 makes me cry.

I’m a ranger that isnt geared for entirely for damage, its a split build really and the most I’ve done (totaling up rapid fire) is probably around 10k, I have to say that if a warrior can use hundred blades on me then 8/10 times I’m dead instantly and thats with a lot of toughness and vitality..

in seriousness, this is probably the case. Either that or one of the harder hitting things (killshot) in spvp (where you get upped to 80, in 80 gear).

I think its best to avoid kitten conversations with people in general. Some people have the need to constantly out-do everyone around them, make others feel bad, and make themselfs look godlike. It seems to happen a lot in this game because there is no way to measure how well others are doing.

Honestly the best groups I have had while doing dungeons were the ones that were doing low amounts of damage. The only way I could tell was that the mobs seems to take a bit longer to kill, but hardly anyone ever died. IMO go for lower numbers, but keep a resonable amount of survivability. You do no damage when you are dead.

Do you have a source for this? I have seen it speculated before but have not seen any proof. I would be interested to know for sure.
