Ok, so I am fairly new to the game and I’m stuck on what class I want to play.

Im stuck between Warrior, Necromancer, and Elementalist.

I wan’t a class that is good at PvP/WvW Roaming.

I tried to get into thief but its just not my style, just way to squishy for me.

I usually play Big brutes and stuff, like the guys that dish out a ton of pain but can still take a hit.

I just want to be able to fight pretty much any class.

I have been playing with Necromancer a bit but it seems like the moment i see an Elementalist or a half decent Warrior Im just screwed Im unable to keep condi up on them and they just heal stupid amounts, that there is literally nothing i could ever do to kill them.

Necromancer is my favorite class aesthetically, but I have more fun when I’m playing my warrior. Based on what you usually play, I’d say Warrior should be right up your alley.

Just create a character and level them to 10 or so and you should get a good feel for the profession and if it suits you.

If you’re new, then it’s normal for any remotely good player to decimate you.
Moreover if you’re not even 80, then you won’t even be able to scratch the other guy. He’ll just laugh at you, and shot you down without even looking.
and as someone who as an ele as a main character, I don’t think it has what you’re looking for.
It does dish out a ton of pain, but it can take a hit. A single one. That’s it.
It’s the squishiest motherkitten around.
The only way to survive to move-heal-move-clean condi-move-move-move-evade-move-move…etc.etc

I believe that any class can beat any class with enough skills.
as Hex Kor suggested, just create a character level it and see how it feels.

Warrior – If you are new then they tend to be more survivable in dungeons and more welcome additions to a party. (IMHO)

My approach is… The first class is always the “burner” class. It needs to be the easiest class to play and one with heavy armor so that you have more survivability.

Even though Warriors are one of the easiest classes… they are seriously highly powered and preferred.

Warriors also have a tendency to be judged “boring” to play by some players. This can sometimes be solved by trying out new weapons (as warriors have the largest weapon selection of all professions).

Also, if you want to play “big brutes that can also take a hit and survive”, bear in mind that some attacks are not designed to be “taken”, but avoided. That’s why the game has a dodge mechanic that is available to all professions.

The problem with most coming into this game is they come from other MMOs, where you stand there and use your skills and get wailed on while doing so. You will find a thief squishy if you do this, you will find an ele really really really squishy if you do this…the warrior not so much but that’s just the nature of that class. Warrior is a good starting place but honestly, you won’t learn the proper dodge mechanics of the game playing a faceroll, facetank character. I started an ele and learned real quick what I had to do to not die all the time. Also, try leveling an necromancer first, I found that the death shroud helps to have a oh-kitten button for if you miss your dodges and is more forgiving when learning.

Learn the dodge mechanic and then find the profession you enjoy. Don’t base your judgements of the squishy professions off your first few goes at them.

I’m not a fan of WvW roaming (large scale is where its at) but all of those classes have very viable roaming builds, condition necro loses out a bit in mobility but having a warhorn remedies that a bit, and based on the skill level of WvW players and the lack of condition removal brought by bursty thieves/mesmers seen roaming, it makes up for the lack of evades or mobility.

General PvE in this game is so easy on any class if you go full glass.

In large scale WvW and GvG, Eles, Warriors, Necros, along with guardians are the most important members of the group, and I’m sad that the other professions are less useful i here, which is my favorite part of the game.

In tpvp warriors and eles (both D/D and staff especially) are really strong, and condition necro can be strong there too, but it has serious issues with being shut down by CC and focus fire in teamfights there.
